VOCATIONAL HISTORY
COMBINED ARTISTS (CARTE BLANCHE)
Dates : 2010 – 2018
Position held: Senior Video Editor
Summary of Responsibilities:
Combined Artists produces an international award winning journalism/actuality weekly show called “Carte Blanche”. The show consists of an hour long broadcast every week, and is one of the most watched and recognized shows on South African television for the past 30 years.
In September 2010, I was employed as a Senior Video Editor to head up their post-production which at the time was being out-sourced to the broadcaster. After joining the team, I migrated the show from an SD environment to an HD workflow that suited Combined Artists’ particular needs, bringing the post-production in-house.
I also established an archiving workflow that could accommodate the extensive hours of footage shot every week.
Further, it was my responsibility to oversee and check the quality of all the broadcast inserts as well as to supervise and coordinate with the freelance editors, in order to ensure that the inserts were in-line with the broadcast standards of Carte Blanche. Trouble shooting and correcting of inserts, promo editing for the show, archiving and preparation of elements from studio every week were just some the duties assigned to me.
I was also assigned the responsibility to edit the inserts of any previous stories from the past that required a 2 minute update and that would be broadcast during the week, including all internal and other postproduction needs on a daily/weekly basis.
SIX STREET STUDIOS // REFINERY
Dates : 1994 - 2010
Position held: Video Editor
Summary of Responsibilities:
I first started my career as an assistant editor on a grass valley analogue editing suite. After doing basic edits for broadcast television, I began to teach myself Avid and after six months, was moved to Avid as an online editor, where I specialized in broadcast television which included, but was not limited to documentaries; kids’ television programmes; cooking shows and below-the-line commercials.
In 2000, Six Street Studios was bought out and renamed the “Refinery”. It was one of the largest post-production facilities in Africa, doing everything from High-end commercials; movies as well as broadcast television.
I then was given the opportunity to expand my skills and I moved into offline editing under contract for the Refinery, by working on a 13 part reality series show for Combined Artists. Later, I was seconded permanently to Combined Artists to work on their sponsorship commercials for 2 years.
Under the umbrella of Refinery I have done corporate work; assembled movie online timelines; edited call to action commercials; journalistic/news inserts; reality shows and various broadcast television programmes as an offline/online editor.
