Laboratory/Research experience
For my final year project I worked under the supervision of Prof. Ken O’Halloran, head of Department of Physiology, and Dr. Eric Lucking in the physiology lab for 6 months. We investigated the effects of acute hypoxia on rat diaphragm function in vivo. I received an overall grade of 68% for this project. My duties:
Measure the transdiaphragmatic pressure of the animals during ventilatory/non- ventilatory behaviors
Take blood samples
Dissect and harvest the desirable tissues (diaphragm muscle, heart, spleen, lungs)
Further dissection on the heart
Statistical analysis
Examine and evaluate the results of the experiment
Write up scientific paper
