Lead Hematology Technologist
Daily operations in Hematology
Responsible for direct supervision of 10+ technologists in the Hematology department.
Responsible for training new technologists to perform functions required in the department.
Provide daily technical and administrative support to department technologists.
Provide in-service training to nursing staff on proper blood collection techniques.
Implement new laboratory procedures when necessary.
Review existing laboratory procedures and make necessary changes for the benefit of the department.
Communicate laboratory results to physicians pertaining to patient care.
Confer with on-site Pathologist on a daily basis to discuss issues.
Meet daily with other Lead Technologists to discuss pertinent issues.
Attend weekly Lead Technologist meetings to discuss technical, administrative, and personnel issues.
Perform quarterly competency reviews for department technologists as required.
Participate in CAP surveys of other area hospitals in the Hematology department.
Generalist Medical Technologist
Responsible for all areas of the lab to include Chemistry, Hematology, Special Chemistry, Toxicology, Blood Bank (both tube and gel methods), Coagulation, Immunology, Microbiology, Serology, Urinalysis, Blood Gases, and Phlebotomy.
Communicate laboratory results to physicians pertaining to patient care.
Responsible for daily Quality Control, Calibration, and maintenance of instruments.
Perform troubleshooting of instruments when necessary.
Perform Proficiency Testing as required.
