Personal Statement

Growth – it is the one thing that I have always strived for. As a child, I was an overachiever as I strived to beat my personal running record. This trickles down to my work life as I aim to be the best at whatever I do. With one year of experience as a product manager in a B2B enterprise SaaS start-up in Silicon Valley, I am a penultimate year undergraduate student in National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School with a passion for technology. I have prior experiences in product design with skills in HTML, CSS and Sketch, data analytics with skills in Excel, SQL and Tableau, as well as working with people from different teams such as engineering, customer success and sales. My dynamic background with over six months of experience in account management and marketing roles have also groomed me to whip out great presentations in a short time. My interest in technology brewed during my internship stint in a global technology division of an advertising agency in Singapore, Metalworks by Maxus (a Group M and WPP company). I had the opportunity to work with cutting edge technologies such as virtual reality, SmellTech, wearable and beacon technology, to incorporate them into marketing campaigns for The Body Shop. Spending a year in Silicon Valley as a product manager in a technology start-up alleviated this interest into passion. Managing a product for a B2B marketing software that provides loyalty and engagement solutions to brands has given me insights on how to bring an early-stage product to success. By working directly with the VP of Product, we have successfully rolled out four features and increased the client base to seven brands. I have worked end-to-end on rolling out four features specifically: Mobile App, Dashboards, Rules and Punch Cards. I extracted data-backed insights using R and used those findings to create better features for restaurants and retail brands. This year-long stint has also increased my expertise in mobile app development and user experience (UX) design through re-designing the company’s white-labelled mobile app product for brands to customize as their own loyalty app.

I have also worked on four start-up ventures while staying in Silicon Valley -- one of which won a $10,000 grant from NUS Enterprise, an incubation program. This entrepreneurial passion started when I joined the NUS Entrepreneurship Society and eventually became the President. We successfully partnered up with 20 corporate partners such as Uber and e27 to be part of the inaugural start-up internship fair that eventually garnered over 300 students from all over Singapore. Attending case competitions locally and overseas, such as in Canada, Japan and Finland, has allowed me to grow my business acumen and ability to innovate. My biggest win was during the API World Hackathon 2016 in San Francisco where my team won $10,000 for an augmented reality shopping app.
