● University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital - Birmingham, AL-June 2016 to Present
Position: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Provided psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of individuals presenting to the Emergency Room during acute crisis situations; suicidal behaviors, substance abuse issues, psychotic episodes, and depression. When I wasn't in the Emergency Room, I worked as a member of the consult team and provided treatment to inpatients. I have also provided coverage (during vacations) on various inpatient psychiatric units.
● North Shelby Psychiatric Services, Inc. - Helena, AL-September 2015 to June 2016
Position: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Employed in an outpatient psychiatry clinic. Provided psychotherapy, assessment, treatment, diagnosis, and evaluation of individuals (ranging in age from 5-80) who were in need of mental health treatment. A large percentage were small children and teenagers who had ADHD, oppositional defiant behaviors, self harm behaviors, or eating disorders. The adults I treated primarily had issues with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, and substance abuse.
● University of Alabama Hospital - Birmingham, AL-May 2012 to September 2015 Position: Psychiatric RN then transitioned over to Psych CRNP Performed psychiatric assessments, when requested, on patients in the Emergency Room. Conducting suicide and violence risk assessments on individuals. Communication with psychiatrist regarding my findings/assessments of the patients. Upon become a CRNP, responsible for assessment, diagnosing, and treatment of individuals in an outpatient settting. Educated in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
● MHM Services, Inc - Montgomery, AL-March 2014 to August 2014 Position: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Employed in the Mental Health Department of Tutwiler Prison (on-site and telepsych.) Responsible for assessment, diagnosing, medication management and stabilization of female inmates. This included intervening to provide assessment / treatment recommendations during periods of crisis / suicidal behaviors.
● Everest College - Merrillville, IN-2007 to May 2012 Position: Clinical/Classroom Instructor
Taught future LPN's in both a clinical and a classroom setting. Clinical setting was initially on a step-down cardiac unit and then later various long-term care facilities. Classroom coursework consisted on providing education regarding cardiac system, muscular skeletal system, respiratory system, and pharmacology.
● Porter Hospital - Valparaiso, IN-2002 to 2007
Position: Resource Nurse / Staff Nurse / Nursing Supervisor Floated between various units in the hospital.
Implemented routine nursing care. (IV's, administering medication, performing dressing changes, monitoring vital signs, and documentation.) Utilized primarily on the telemetry units, detox. unit, and some med/surg. units until I was offered a clinical position working for two prominent orthopedic surgeons.
ACLS certified from 1998 - 2006.
When filling in as Nursing Supervisor, I assessed nurse / patient ratio's in order to have each unit staffed appropriately. I helped to facilitate a smooth flow throughout all units. I mediated when problems would occur. At the end of each shift, I provided a shift report to upper management.
● St. Anthony's Hospital - Valparaiso, IN-2000 to 2003 Daytime Charge RN
Initially, I started out working PRN and then assumed a daytime charge position. Responsibilities consisted of assisting in the continuity of flow amongst the staff. Assigning work responsibilities to the staff.
Admitting / assessing patients and performing routine nursing care. Leading patient focused group discussion topics such as depression, anger management, and implementing coping skills related to stressors in life. EDUCATION
