OBJECTIVE
Application for Cytotechnologist Position. Possess Valid Current California Licensure in Cytotechnology and Certification in Thin Prep Pap Competency from Hologic Corporation. Prior experience with routine NON-GYN and GYN screening at all facilities listed below.
NOTE Since 2006 I have been away from Cytology. During this period I have worked in the ‘remote radiology’ industry providing technical support for a software company based in Tustin, California whose product enhanced the workflow efficiency for several radiologists throughout the Pacific Northwest and the Midwestern states. While still involved with the medical field, my role was largely consulting with the tech staff on matters related to diagnostic radiology. I did this for nearly 10 years until I started to miss being involved with the microscope. I am happy to discuss this in more detail if you’d like to know additional specific information about my absence from the field. I have renewed my California license and obtained certification in Thin Prep Proficiency through the ‘Hologic’ Formal Training Modules. I have spent most of the Summer 2017 reviewing cases at the Loma Linda University Cytology Department, under the supervision of the Program Directors. I had access to their collection of both conventional and Thin Prep glass slides for both GYN and NON-GYN specimens, including FNA’s, as well as cell blocks for histologic correlation. I have also been able to spend some of that time refreshing my exposure to most of the routine aspects of specimen accessioning, processing and staining.
EXPERIENCE
FACULTY CYTOTECHNOLOGIST- LOMA LINDA SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH
FROM 8/21/2000 TO 8/24/2001
Served as a faculty member in the School of Cytotechnology as well as a screening ‘tech’ for the Staff Pathologists at the Medical Center. As a faculty member at the school I presented lectures on theoretical and practical aspects of Cytology to the incoming students as well as assisting in the training of resident pathologists during their rotations through the Cytology ‘service’. I was the research coordinator for the student projects at the Cytology school and helped them design and present their required presentations at the end of their formal didactic training. I screened GYN and NON-GYN cases at the Medical Center on a daily basis, performed daily specimen accessioning and processing, and assisted the interventional radiologists during daily FNA procedures.
STAFF CYTOTECHNOLOGIST- LOMA LINDA VETERANS ADMINISTRATION HOSPITAL
FROM 8/15/2002 TO 7/5/2006
Staff Cytotechnologist screening mostly Non-GYN specimens from the ‘Pettis’ VA Hospital. Our load of GYN cases was lighter at this facility but we did receive some GYN specimens each day. The VA had ‘dedicated’ Cyto-preparatory staff so the entire scope of our duties was to screen and prepare preliminary reports for the Pathology staff. We also served a teaching function here, since the VA was a formal ‘clinical’ training affiliate for the Loma Linda Cytology Program.
STAFF CYTOTECHNOLOGIST REDLANDS COMMUNITY HOSPITAL
From 3/28/2002 TO 7/1/2005
At Redlands I was again involved with daily screening both GYN and NON GYN cases. The work load was probably split 50 / 50 between the two types of cases. We also received training with the Thin Prep specimen preparation and staining methods. We assisted on some bone marrow biopsies and frozen section preparation as well. The bulk of the duties in this position entailed screening and preparing preliminary evaluations for the Pathology staff.
*** I also have prior work experience in Radiation Therapy at Loma Linda, and in a basic research setting at the City Of Hope National Medical Center. I am happy to elaborate on these experiences if you’d like to know anything more about them.
