I have an overall experience of over 11+ years. An expert at Requirements Consulting and Scrum Framework, I have worked on both Agile and other SDLC models to deliver multiple million dollar projects from scratch to go live, and beyond. As a Scrum Master, my responsibilities have been to train my team (that was new to Agile Methodology) on the principles of Agile. Being a part of the development team as a Senior Business Analyst, and a part of the Scrum team as a Scrum Master, I embodied the Scrum framework within the team, and also experienced its efficacies on the ground. My team and I used to participate in Sprint Planning meetings where we would understand the Sprint Goal from the Product Owner, provide velocity to the story cards, assign tasks to each card, and finally create a Sprint Backlog for the upcoming Sprint. A typical day would start with a daily standup meeting, with us discussing the issues, what’s done, and what’s remaining for the Sprint. Being a true believer of doing whatever it takes to deliver projects irrespective of the methodology, I would then help the team in whatever way I can. Sometimes I would code, at other times I would test, and most of the times I would clarify the user stories to the team. For impediments, we used to write comments on the cards and put them on the Blocked List in Trello, so we could get answers the same day. This way our team worked like a tireless army, building the code from brick to brick, sometimes falling behind the Sprint schedule because of attrition within the team, and at other times falling behind the overall release because of change in requirements, but learning Sprint after Sprint, and empirically delivering projects.

As a Business Analyst, my role is more of a consultant. I organize requirement workshops to elicit requirements, and adapt the processes according to the client environment. Sometimes I insist that all stakeholders be brought together in a war room until we understand the entire as-is and to-be processes, and at other times I request the clients to tell me what they need instead of how they need it. I also choose my requirement elicitation tools in such a way that the clients understand what I exactly am trying to express or ask. With a more visual group, I use wireframes and mockups, lesser wordy documents such as user stories. With a more analytical group, I use process flows, freemind, use cases, etc. During elicitation sessions, I would also identify gaps and try to suggest solutions that would meet the requirements as well as be within the product realms. Once the elicitation is done, I come to offshore (India) and get those requirements implemented by the development team. I also am a focal point for the architects, developers, testers, senior management, and the clients to drive the project.

PROJECTS with Ebix Inc. (From 02/14/2011 till date in USA, Canada, and India)

Ebix is a Software company that has multiple products in Life, Annuity, and P&C Insurance domains. I have worked on Agency Management product (Producer Support System – PSS), New Business and Underwriting Product (The Policy Processor – TPP), and Electronic Application Submission on Web, Mobile, and Tab product (Eapp). I have also worked with multiple clients to implement these products, such as Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (USA – Current Client), Cooperators Insurance (Canada), and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company (USA). My roles and responsibilities have varied from project to project.

At Nationwide, I am currently working as a Business Analyst, eliciting the epics for Release 1.1 and writing use cases and user stories. I am also working with the offshore team to get these user stories implemented. I am also testing the Release 1.0 of TPP system. In addition to this, the clients rely on me to analyze the logs and provide them an answer for any underwriting issues. I look at ACORD compliant interfaces and provide my analysis.

At Cooperators, I went to Canada to elicit requirements from the client. I wrote epics and user stories and thoroughly understood the product backlog. Since I was a good liaison between the Product Owner, Stakeholders, and the offshore team, I was also chosen as the Scrum Master to get the project implemented from India. Once I went to India, I coached the development team about the principles of Agile. I also helped the team with the business understanding of the tasks chosen by the team for every Sprint. I used to wear Business Analyst hat at times and Scrum Master’s hat at other times. Sprint after Sprint, we used to deliver incremental software, and within Sprints, we used to perform continuous integration. Finally, we went live with Release 1 in January 2017 and had almost finished Release 2 of the project before I was released to join the implementation at Nationwide.

Liberty Mutual Producer Support System was a green field software implementation project in which I was sent as a consultant. I was on staff augmentation to analyze LMI’s business processes and to write business requirements while aligning them with the product (PSS). In the first phase of the project I worked with the end users and SMEs to understand LMI’s business processes. Here I suggested innovative ideas to optimize the business processes and to save cost to LMI. I also helped in planning with my manager at LMI. We were also developing a commissions system, for which I created the as-is process by working with multiple stakeholders and then created requirements for Ebix. After eliciting LMI’s business requirements, I came back to India to get the delta requirements (i.e. requirements that were not there in the product) implemented for LMI. I worked very closely with the development team, the QA team, and the clients to get the requirements implemented. We had implemented drop 1 and drop 2 (producer on boarding, licensing and appointments, moves and mergers) and drop 3 (commission management) implementation. To increase the accuracy of calculation of commissions in drop 3, I had also donned the role of a developer, writing business rules in Drools. This had led to a decrease in the total number of development resources thereby reducing the costs and increasing the efficacy of the delivery. My ability to look at the project in a holistic manner and pitch in wherever required has been deeply appreciated by the Ebix management and Liberty management.

I had also worked as a developer with this company before moving on the become a Business Analyst.
