Medical Mission to Nicaragua 3/12/06-3/19/06

As a US licensed Physician Assistant, was part of a team that was given permission from the country’s President to provide medical care for Granada, Nicaragua during a medical strike for one week. Co-lead the trip with a Nicaraguan physician while supervising two physician assistant students who were in training at the Medical University of SC.

Medical Mission to South Africa 3/11/05-3/21/05

As a Physician Assistant Student, provided medical treatment to a population without access to medical care. This experience provided an opportunity to learn techniques on appropriate removal of simple skin lesions, both benign and malignant, under the supervision of a Dermatology PA. Had the opportunity to see physical manifestations of some of the diseases that we immunize against in the US.

Pediatric Radiology Supervisor

Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC 2000 - 2003

Responsibilities included overseeing the general flow of the pediatric radiology department, performing Radiologic Technologist duties, and making the schedule for eight pediatric radiographers. During this time I was taught common diagnoses and Radiologic imaging of premature infants, assisted attending Radiologist in attempted decompression of intestinal intussusception and volvulus, and the placement of nasogastric, jejunostomy tubes with the attending Pediatric Radiologist.

Research Assistant I, Department of Physiology and Neuroscience

Studied relapse to cocaine drug-seeking behavior in Sprauge Dawley rats following chronic drug self-administration and the role of the basolateral amygdala in both an FR1 and discriminative stimulus paradigms. The position was part of the Neuroscience training on the PhD tract.
