WORK EXPERIENCE
Cytonome, Boston, MA
Systems Engineer Intern September 2016 – December 2016 Verified and validated the Viva cell sorter by performing extensive commercial-use scenario tests. Conducted tests and provided feedback on prototyped parts. Investigated and gathered data on known problems and collaborated with a diverse team to establish solutions. Wrote standard operating procedures with respect to lean and Six Sigma methodologies regarding the maintenance, use and new part fabrication of the Viva cell sorter.
● Gathered data to be used for results stability assurance through the use of fluorescent beads
● Constructed reports based off of weekly findings of the data to be presented to the development team
● Repaired, analyzed and built Viva cell sorter units
● Collaborated with multiple departments of Cytonome by bringing in professionals of different departments to work with to solve encountered problems
MKS Instruments, Methuen, MA
Applications Engineer Intern January 2016 – April 2016 Conducted Fourier Transform InfraRed spectroscopy tests of multiple gases using the MultiGas instrument and created clientele- specific custom gas spectrometry libraries to suit their needs. Repaired and built MultiGas instruments as well as trained new customers on the safety, handling and maintenance of the spectrometer.
● Repaired, analyzed and built MultiGas instruments
● Created and performed clientele-custom calibrations to be used in combustion engine and smokestack industries
● Collaborated with a team of diverse backgrounds to meet customer needs and demands
● Trained and taught new customers on how to maintain, use and calibrate the MultiGas instrument according to written standard operating procedures
SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT
AtroFree
Conceptualized, designed and built a knee sleeve designed to assess varying levels of muscle atrophy using integrated sensors. Researched causation, current treatments and their effectiveness, and detection technologies of muscle atrophy of the knee.
● Conceptualized a sensing knee sleeve that integrated electromyographs, pulse oximeters and accelerometers designed to be a feasible detection technology for muscle atrophy
● Designed a prototype using SolidWorks, hand sketches and biological overlays that replicated the concept of the device
● Programmed a Light Blue Bean + through Arduino code that receives each sensor’s data, processes it, compares it, and then sends the data to a smartphone application through Bluetooth technology
● Built a prototype knee sleeve with integrated sensors that communicate with each other to assess severity of muscle atrophy in the vastus lateralis, vastus medialis and the biceps femoris
● Documented the entire process from conception of idea to testing of the prototype LEADERSHIP
