I have worked in manufacturing facilities for well over 10 years. I started as a journeyman mechanic and worked my way through supervisory, project management and senior management roles of those facilities in packaging and food and beverage packaging. I have worked in both non-union and union environments and have negotiated collective bargaining agreements relative to those plants.

Improved plant productivity – IPEX is a fabrication shop that was expanded to two shift and through improved efficiencies, reduced back to one shift without the loss of product output. Ecologic Brands was a startup company running two shifts with the need to improve production for new business. Training and expansion to 3 shifts while reducing the number of employees necessary to efficiently man the plant was recently achieved, self-imposed goal. At Silgan Containers, I added production capacity by adding an additional manufacturing line. Installed, trained and ran this additional line with four less employees than standard manning required.

Development and Implementation of SOPs – Standard Operating Procedures did not exist at Ecologic Brands when I joined the team. The development and implementation of SOPs aided in reducing employee headcount while improving productivity throughput and quality of goods.

Risk Assessment and Safety Program direction – Organized and headed the Safety Committee for a sanitary food can production facility. Employee / management involvement allowed for the identification and correction of outstanding safety risks within the production facility. Implemented a Rolling Action Item List in order to track progress to completion of outstanding opportunities for improvement.

Project Management – Successfully consolidated and streamlined west coast packaging supplies for Silgan Containers. $1.8 million was saved through the ability to track, repair, and supply west coast plants with needed packaging supplies, while wait time at the production facilities was eliminated.

Managed 11 staff and 134 hourly employees in the safe production of packaging goods for the food and beverage industry. Responsibilities include environmental, quality, safety, staff mentoring, capital expenditures, maintenance, forecasting and production, and overall profit and loss / outlook ownership. Worked plant through transition and implementation of Lean Manufacturing practices in parallel with production during its busy season at a rate of 4 million bags per month with a 97% customer satisfaction rate.

IPEX, USA Lodi, CA

Production Manager / Plant Manager October 2015-May 2017

Manage 2 salaried and 26 hourly employees in a made-to-stock and made-to-order fabrication shop. Responsibilities include planning, scheduling, safety and environmental training of employees, capital expenditures, maintenance of building and equipment and direction of workforce. Increased stock on hand from $160K to $510K, filling our Distribution Center in support of sales while maintaining a customer delivery rate of fewer than 3 days for custom parts.

Managed 5 salaried employees and 60 temporary and fulltime hourly workers, OSHA regulations, strategic capital budget planning, international shipping timetables, production planning, employee schedules, machine and building maintenance, cost control, and implementation of Lean Manufacturing principles. My team and I made the start-up company profitable and it was subsequently sold.

Plant Superintendent August 1997-January 2015

Daily responsibilities included scheduling, management, training, and accountability of 7 salaried and 108 hourly union employees. Other duties included quality, waste, customer and employee satisfaction, maintenance accounts, discipline, overall equipment effectiveness and preventative maintenance within the facility and annual strategic planning of capital budget designated for the overhaul of production equipment and improvement to existing and future production. I promoted within the company from a Press Mechanic, Shift Supervisor, Project Manager, Assistant Superintendent, to a Superintendent responsible for directing a high-speed facility that was responsible for 700 million cans and 350 million ends for cans at a best in class 85% overall equipment efficiency.

Responsible for quality and production on thirteen double die and multi die presses. Train new operators and mechanics and report progress to management. Liaison between the press production floor and tool and die shop. Travelled to Venezuela and China to install and start up equipment, train personnel and assist in the qualifying of local vendors.

I served two years at a Security Forces unit and completed time served in the infantry. Served as Sergeant of the Guard in Security Forces unit at NAS Alameda, CA. Squad Leader in infantry charged with assignments in company areas as well as on maneuvers. I received an Honorable Discharge.
