SUMMARY

I have ** years working in * different IT Departments. Both jobs involved a small staffed department, so I have a lot of experience wearing many hats doing all things IT related. I am used to working a few different things at any one time. I find a way to get the job done. My coworkers find me reliable and responsible. When people need something done, they call me.

This includes administrating servers, managing AD networks, writing admin scripts, writing software, configuring Cisco switches and routers, deploying computers to end users, backing up and restoring data, installing and implementing new software, supporting end users, writing Crystal Reports, advising on purchases, configuring and managing wireless access points, coming up with creative solutions to hard problems, running and finishing network cables, setting up VPN between branches, supporting VM-Ware servers, configuring Cisco and Checkpoint firewalls, administrating SQL servers, writing API code to interface with web services, and more.

EXPERIENCE

SENIOR ADMINISTRATOR

11/05 to Current

American Litho, Inc

American Litho is a $100 million printing company. The company has doubled in the time I have been there. We have bought 3 different companies in that time and we also moved to a new facility. I managed the communication between the two buildings during the move and also managed the move of all the computer related items.

Career Growth

oI started off having a job title of Technical Support and earned a promotion to Senior Administrator after a few years. Job titles do not always tell the entire story. My responsibilities have always been greater than the title. I write a little bit of code, but most of my work is focused on the day-to-day operations of the business. My boss trusts me with this responsibility. I have one another employee who helps me with this, whom I have mentored on the job.

Computer Security

oI am responsible for both the physical and computer security systems at the company. I manage our surveillance system, which is a combination of IP, Coax, and Wireless cameras. We use two different products, Exaqvision and Nest Cameras. When we first moved into our new building, we had a door access system from the mid 90’s. I worked with a vendor to install a new one from ITC named GTX, so that we could better manage the security and monitor who goes in each door. I set up who has access to where and making sure that is the case by watching the logs.

oWe print some jobs which we mail for companies. The customer provides data and expects us to maintain securely. Part of that process was to configure a PGP key in order that customer can encrypt that data.

Networking

oI have managed our network for the past 12 years. We have about 20 Cisco Switches, with a Core Router.

oWe have acquired several companies since I have been there, which always brings connections issues with it. I have been responsible for both setting up and administrating site-to-site VPNs between them. We had a wireless bridge set up between 2 of our building to connect them together. We have multiple VLANs and route between them.

oAnytime we grow, we have a need for new network connections with the new machines. Any time this happens, I find a solution to getting the cable there, which sometimes involves me running and finishing the cable myself. Some of our switches in our plant are in near the ceiling, so that means using a scissor lift to get at them. Whatever it takes, I get the job done.

Administration

oMy responsibilities also including administrating Active Directory, managing and configuring DNS and DHCP, Group Policies, Login Scripts, and reviewing logs. I installed and manage our 2 different FTP servers. One is for regular FTP and the second is for SFTP

Web Development

oI have created and updated web applications vital to our business. These pages manage our jobs, our paper inventory, and are used for the majority of are purchases. They were written with javascript, VBscript, and HTML. The data is sent between the server and client side using XML and are displayed using XSL.

Report Writing

oI have written a lot of Crystal Reports and Crystal Clear Reports. We use these reports for job tickets, shipping documents, carton and skid labels, and financial statements. We have a Crystal Reports server, where we publish those reports to. By using that, we access those reports through an URL. Some of these reports are scheduled to run daily or monthly. The Crystal Clear reports are used by our ERP system, which is EFI Pace. We use a hybrid of Pace and our own in-house system to manage our jobs. . I have written API interfaces with LTL companies to retrieve their freight costs for our shipments. We also use their API to provide tracking information.

Support

oBeing a small department, we are also the help desk. We face a whole range of questions and help a staff with a wide variety of computer knowledge. We support pretty anything that might be considered computer equipment; including TVs we have for our customers. I am on call pretty much 24/7.

Database Administration

oWe have several MS SQL Databases, a Posgres database, and a mySQL database that we use and administer.

SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

9/99 to 11/05

Schaumburg Township District Library

Provided supported for both the staff and patrons of the library.

Both the staff and patrons had a network desktop and start menu. This worked great with Novell, where the end user could only see what they had permissions to see. Microsoft shows the user all of the folders, even if they do not have access to it. When we were switching away from Novell this was a problem. I was able to solve this problem by writing a login script, which would a series of text files based of the computers IP address and which AD groups the user was a part of. Based on the text files the script would copy in shortcuts to the user’s desktop and menu folders. It also assigned them the appropriate printers that they needed access to.

Configured Cisco Switches, assigning appropriate VLAN configurations

The patrons were limited to 2 hours a day on the computers. Not everybody liked to get off after their time was up and it took a lot of staff time to manage this. One of my last tasks at this job was to install a time and print management software, which limited the user to 2 hours and also provided a waiting queue when all of the computers were being used.
