CLINICAL SKILLS
I gained numerous clinical skills at various health care settings throughout my clinical experience in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. This includes strengthening my physical exams, gathering of pertinent subjective and objective data, assessment, and planning skills. I had the opportunity to participate in procedures such as suturing minor wounds, incision and drainage, and ingrown toe nail removal. I have learned different types of documentation software quickly, both electronic and paper charting. I am competent in assessing and managing many chronic illnesses in children and adults including diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, COPD, hypothyroidism, acute respiratory infections, STD’s, and urinary tract infections. I have also learned to interpret and discuss lab results with patients and teach them pharmological and non-pharmological ways to prevent and treat their illness. I have enforced diet and exercise into my clinical practice. I have also learned to collaborate with the physician and/or nurse practitioner to formulate individual treatment plans.
