SUMMARY:
I was in the fire service for 31 years and in that time I held many positions and performed a variety of duties. Frequently I dealt with people in difficult situations and was required to assess people’s needs and wants while solving multiple problems quickly. Aside from providing emergency service to people in need, there were many other tasks to accomplish, including station maintenance. In the fire service we sometimes referred to ourselves as “a Janitor with a badge”. This was our humorous approach to the more mundane aspects of the job, such as station and grounds maintenance and upkeep, vehicle maintenance, and general clean up.
