INTRODUCTION: Growing up I was always an overweight kid that never worried about weight loss, high blood pressure, diabetes, or complex medical issues. Those things weren’t important to me because I had a multitude of friends and played varsity sports. As I began college and nursing school the reality of being healthy sank in. It did not matter that I had a full ride scholarship in sports or that I was popular in high school. College was a whole new world. I was made fun of because of my size, found out I had high blood pressure, and weighed almost 400 pounds. I began to worry about my future due to family members having high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity, that I may follow in the same footsteps.

So began my weight loss journey in 2006. It took almost 2 years for me to lose the weight and get healthier. I also found out I no longer had high blood pressure. There were physical and emotional ups and downs and it has been one of the hardest things I have ever gone through but is something I would do all over again.

In 2016, after losing so much weight, I celebrated with skin removal surgery and a new outlook on health and wellness. Weight loss is not just about being skinner or impressing others. It is about being healthy mentally and physically, it is about being a role model for others going through the same struggles. I am one of those people that loves food and struggles often with finding that happy medium but I have taught myself to never give up.

I was also a traveling nurse for many years and have had the opportunity to work with individuals in all types of ER’s and ICU’s on the importance of a well-balanced life. I taught patients that it is important to not only be healthy with food and exercise but also in all aspects of life. Spending many years as a travel nurse I was offered many positions due to the quality of care I provided to my patients.

My passion is to specialize in a field of practice, whether in hospital or clinic, as a professional to help others. To show my patients that even though things are hard sometimes that through hard work, confidence, and a drive to succeed that a healthy lifestyle is possible.
