As a Diagnostic Technologist I calculate the amount of radiation needed to safely produce radiographs of designated anatomical areas using the ALARA principle. The position's tasks and responsibilities include, Operating radiation equipment safely to make diagnostic images of designated anatomy by protocol to properly diagnose the patient. I educate my patients on radiation safety and inform all those involved about the exams and risk. As a radiation worker practice radiation safety for myself. Transports radiology equipment safely from one area to the next. Proper use of my TLD. Perform Quality Assurance reports daily to make sure all radiation equipment is working properly with no safety risk or radiation leaks or potential hazards. Takes charge of response to radiation related emergencies and incidents until replaced by a manager or Physicist. I also have educated up and coming radiology students of procedures and protocols as well as new employees. I perform Live studies safely and by protocol based on needs of my patients, work with Radiologist and specialist to assure all radiation safety protocols and exams are completed properly and to help troubleshoot when it’s not working properly. I also make sure all orders are correct and check them before performing any radiation exams, if not correct I make sure to have them corrected before moving on to the next step. I help whenever needed without neglecting my responsibilities to make sure safety requirements are met and to try to keep all departments running smoothly. I work with several other diagnostic technologists and I work independently still ensuring that my responsibilities are completed to the best of my capabilities. I attend all meetings to help make our work area safe for all those who come into our work area. I also share on call hours so if I am needed during my off shift I can be reached and come to work if needed.

Computed Tomography Technologist Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners in accordance with radiation safety procedures following the ALARA principle. Position patients for CT scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary to keep the radiation exposure to a minimum and to ensure all those around are safe. Assist Radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's performing lab values to make sure patients can safely have the exam done, injecting contrast safely to ensure the best images are obtained to properly diagnose the patient. Evaluate CT scans for technical quality, collect processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to PACS.Assisted Physicist when an error occurred to trouble shoot and solve the issue at hand. The program teaches how the Radiation is produced and calculated and how to prevent over exposure and trained us to keep ourselves safe as well as those in the Radiation area. Course work includes clinical rotations to area health care facilities, radiographic exposure, image processing, radiographic procedures, physics 1 and physics II, pathology, patient care and management, radiation protection, quality assurance, anatomy and physiology, and radiobiology. I was evaluated by grades, communication and how I developed and spoke as a student Radiographer. I was also critiqued on my performance as a student. I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in applied Science. Upon completion, I passed The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist national exam and became a registered Radiographer.
