Career Construction/Chief

Chief-

Career Goal: Construction/Chief-Senior Estimator

I am a Estimator with 31 years of construction experience, over 21 of those years estimating all different

types of site development, including commercial infrastructure, highway and road construction (retaining

walls, culverts, bridges), commercial and residential development, master planned communities, utilities,

trenching, deep hole excavation, and earthen dams. I consider myself a seasoned expert in evaluating

geotechnical reports, especially in determining rock mass quality and excavation techniques to estimate

digging, ripping, and blasting excavations. I have always had the lead role in determining all phases of

earthwork.

structures. Geotechnical report was not available so I used the Texas Geologic Map to determine

the formations that would be encountered.

(2) Chandler Road Phase 3A is a 4 mile 2 lane rural road consisting of approximately 62,000 of dirt

excavation cut to fill and (1) bridge structure. This material was a high PI and required lime

stabilization or geogrid.

Estimated many more projects for Tx DOT throughout Texas, in Williamson County, Travis County, Hays

County, and City projects in Central Texas.

Used Agtek to determine cuts, fills and haul routes.

Projects ranged from $50,000 to $32,000,000.

Chief-Senior Estimator, Estimating Department, 05/1996 to 04/2010

Summary of Qualifications:

Prepared accurate and cost competitive detailed bid packages for earthwork, bridge structures,

Earthwork Highlights: (These are a few of the projects constructed during my tenure.)

(1) Quinlan Park Road Phase 2 & 3 was 2.8 mile 2 lane roadway converted to a 4 lane divided

roadway. This project comprised of approximately 125,000 cy of rock excavation and 80,000 cy of

embankment. Our deepest cut was approximately 23’ and the average depth was 8’. There was

no overburden reported on the geotechnical report with the upper strata having a RQD of 35 – 60,

the middle strata 70 – 85 and the deepest strata 90 – 100.

(2) Barton Skyway Plaza was a commercial office site built on a hillside. It was less than 5 acres and

the lower level of the parking garage was 42 feet below existing and consisted of 89,000 cy of rock

excavation. We used (1) D10, (2) D9s, and (3) Komatsu 300s with hammers for the excavation.

This was a fast tracked project and we successfully completed our scope of work with no delays.

(3) AW Grimes Blvd. was a 2.5 mile 6 lane arterial roadway with 4 bridge structures. It was

approximately 150,000 of cut to fill. We used D8s and 631 scrapers to move the material. It was

mostly dirt with some rock excavation in the Austin chalk formation.

I estimated many other projects for Tx DOT, City of Austin, City of Round Rock, Travis County,

Williamson County and Hays County, and other public entities most of them equal to the above

however I was not the low bidder.

Each project estimated I analyzed the geotechnical report, always walked the site and depending on

equipment and operator availability I would have test holes dug. I also built an excel spreadsheet to

perform a mass ordinate calculation for haul routes.

Developed close relationships with local subcontractors and suppliers.

Projects ranged from $50,000 to $25,000,000.
