Center for clinical and observational research of cardiovascular sciences in East Carolina and home of the Dr. Randolph Chitwood who performed the first robotic mitral valve repair with the da Vinci surgical system.

Capstone Team Member

Worked with a team to create a solution to an issue of fog appearing on the lens of the 3-D camera of the da Vinci robot during surgery. Formed a full project plan including problem analysis, generation of alternatives, solution selection, and prototype design. Worked long hours with the team to log testing, analyze data, and document the project in a report. Analyze the economic impact of the of the solution and how it would improve patient care.

Produced a report of the economic and healthcare impact of the fogging issue during surgery.

Utilizing 3-D printing and creative thinking, a fully functioning prototype was created that successfully kept the fogging from occurring in simulated testing.

Formulated a suitable testing environment.

Created a formal report and presented findings for peers and judges.
