Experience

Histology Technician: December 2012 ~ Sept 2014

I worked for a five doctor Gastroenterology practice and preformed all the work in the Histology Laboratory. The tissue specimens were given an accession number, which is done on the computer by me. I grossed the GI tissue specimens, with descriptions and measurements and put them in small cassettes. The tissues were processed using a EBS microwave. They were embedded in paraffin, cut on the microtome and put on slides. They were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and hand cover slipped. I would pack and ship the slides to a pathologist in Memphis, Tenn. I ran this Histology Laboratory by myself.

Owner and manager of a web-based collectible business. Over 4,500 resold items, described and shipped from home. Maintained direct customer relations and payments throughout transactions.

Histology Technician, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk, Virginia ~ 1979-1983

Histology Technician for the Department of Anatomy. Involved in making the medical students’ histology slides to study the different tissues. Assisted with the department’s professor’s research. Taught colleagues histology techniques on a microtome and cryostat. Maintained and serviced all equipment, prepared reagents, stains, and insured laboratory upkeep. Assumed full responsibility for the work of the laboratory, included in those responsibilities were extensive electron and scanning microscopic techniques.

Involved with all histology work, cleaning, maintaining equipment, making reagents and stains. Assisted pathologist in job duties.

Supervisor with two technicians. Assumed responsibility for maintaining equipment, making reagents and stains, cutting on the microtome or cryostat and mounting on glass slides. Assisted pathologist during autopsies.

Three month Grossing Course for small GI and other small specimens with a pathology laboratory in Norman, Oklahoma ~ February 2013 to April 2013 for CLIA requirements.

Skills

Knowledge of fundamental histological, phlebotomy and medical technology. Computer literacy includes Mac OS X, Windows XP, Vista 7, Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, Microsoft Exchange, Google web apps including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar.

I am qualified to gross small GI tissue specimens and can run a small laboratory doing all the work of a histology technician.
