Responsibilities:

Oversees smooth and coordinated functioning of activities in all sections of the laboratory.

Assists the Pathologist in the management of the laboratory.

Regularly checks and monitors the performance of the MTs in each section of the laboratory.

Sees to it that appropriate quality control measures are consistently implemented in each section of the laboratory.

Troubleshoots problems in each section in coordination with the MT in-charge and in consultation with the pathologist when necessary.

Checks and monitors the inventory of reagents on a regular basis.

Makes requisition of reagents for each section in coordination with the MT in-charge based on the inventory of each section and submits the same request for the approval of the Pathologist.

Makes a schedule of duty rotations of the MT staffs with the approval of the pathologist, and ensures that all eight (8) hours shifts are being filled in with maximum staffing during office hours.

Sees to it that there will be NO disruption in the schedule of duties and in the work activity of the laboratory in the event of absences (even when unforeseen) of MT staffs.

Helps the section/s that needs due to increase workload.

Establishes SOPs in the laboratory and updates it regularly in coordination with section head and in consultation with the pathologist.

Issue guidelines (as necessary) in the form of a memorandum to laboratory staffs.

Reviews and countersigns all laboratory test results to be released and investigates questionable ones, and refers to pathologist when necessary.

Serves as a safety officer of the laboratory, establishing protocol and ensuring its implementation for the safety of individual patient, and laboratory work. Such protocol should be established in consultation with the Pathologist and in coordination with the MT and hospital staff.

Establishes and implements educational program in consultation with the Pathologist to update the MT staff on the latest trends of MT practice.

Should perform multi-tasking when necessary.

Assists the Department/Section that needs help due to increased workload or understaffing.

Troubleshoots problems that are encountered in the assigned Department/Section and should refer and/or report to CMT, ACMT, Senior MT, and Pathologist if it cannot be resolved.

Records all incidents encountered within the shift in the incident logbook which contains the name of the involved staff/ patient/ doctors/ nurses/ other hospital employees, and must describe the nature of the problem/ complaints.

Must attend to all laboratory meetings, seminars, lectures, workshops, and problem-solving sessions as required by the department.

If the MT Staff is a senior, he/she must exercise command responsibility over Junior MT.

Must adhere to the CODE OF ETHICS as a Laboratory Professional at all times.
