Professional Experience:
Feb 2011- Transitions Optical, Inc.
Present Senior Equipment Development Engineer:
Responsible for leading projects and performance of lead role in developing prototype and industrialized equipment, processes, validations and documentation that support the Project Leadership Team (R&D) for development of new photochromic coatings, protective coatings and hard coat coatings. Perform and manage hands-on design of new equipment and processes, including creation and validation of performance and functional specifications, developing concepts, managing and actively participating in design reviews, building, evaluating and validating prototype equipment and processes. Coordinating design work done by outside resources (such as engineering firms, system integrators, and machine builders). These developments include organizing, generating and performing Design of Experiments (DOEs) via Statistical software JMP, Failure Mean Effect Analysis (FMEAs), Kepner-Tregoe problem solving and decision making, Technical Risk Analysis
(TRAs), Process Flow diagrams, Process Control Plans (PCPs) Environment Health and Safety Risk Assessments, utilization of Six Sigma tools, etc. Manage initial commissioning of new equipment and support systems into production, including the production of accurate project documentation (LOTO, Standard operation procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), equipment manuals, preventative maintenance procedures (PMs), visually interactive troubleshooting guides, spare parts, etc.). Established and managed a worldwide deployment of a small scale spin coating system to reproduce mass manufactured processing systems, to enable the creation of new products not available in mass production due to cost constraints.
January 2005- Essilor of America, Inc.
Feb 2011 Senior Engineer (HMC Engineer):
Directed an international team of 2-10 people, r esponsible for developing and validating products, processes and equipment, equipment requirements, development plans, DOEs and Risk Analysis for new and modified Hard Multi Coat and Anti-reflective coatings (Vacuum deposition of Thin Films) for finished ophthalmic lenses. Performed data analysis primarily utilizing Six Sigma methodology and Microsoft Excel and MiniTab to determine process, product, equipment capabilities (Statistical Process and Control (SPC) cp, c pk), and raw material consumption including creating supporting presentations, reports and graphs via Microsoft Office and associated methods. Developed software tools (Microsoft Excel Workbooks, Macros and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to assist in process and product validation verification, process setting, process comprehension, data gathering, organization, planning and analysis of data for various types of equipment, processes and product performance. Generated and developed documentation and software tools for Laboratory Technical Support teams to deploy, validate process/product installation, maintain, and support these new processes and technologies worldwide. Utilized remote connectivity for majority of support functions. Directly managed and responsible for the professional development of 3 direct reports, and was responsible for daily guidance and development of engineers that were responsible for managing coating operations to develop and to support internal departments coating requests for new and existing processes and products. October 2000- Essilor of America, Inc.
January 2005 Senior Engineer (ILC Engineer);
Automated Manufacturing: Provided interface and support functions between Research and Development, Engineering, and Manufacturing for worldwide implementation of a Laboratory Lens Casting Process. Developed a Technical Documentation/Support Web Site, which included all Equipment Drawings in AutoCAD, Parts Database, Manufacturer and Equipment Manuals, Troubleshooting guides, Preventative Maintenance, Work Instructions and SOP’s for all equipment in ILC process. Provided 24/7 Technical Support for process and equipment which included extensive travel. Assumed leadership role in standardization of equipment and improvements of functionality and reliability of new and existing equipment. Assisted and guided internal and external Engineering resources in Design, Installation, and Startup of New Equipment. 1 of 3

March 1996- Essilor of America, Inc.
October 2000 Engineer II (Automated Manufacturing); Automated Manufacturing: Coordinated internal and external Engineering Resources with internal Manufacturing resources to successfully Design, Build and Implement a complete lens casting automated line. Generated and maintained detailed timelines (Gantt Charts), resource loading and budgeting for project. Managed Electrical/Mechanical Technicians during equipment installations while coordinating project and being a fully loaded resource used to oversee mechanical designs and program control systems. The control systems included Adept Robots with vision guidance, Allen Bradley PLC's
& SLC 500's Allen Bradley Operator Interfaces, Baldoor & Yaskawa Servo controllers, Slo-Syn Stepper Motor Controllers, Microsoft Visual Basic and Paradox relational databases. Assisted in the development and Implementation of "Boiler Plate" Machine specification. Provided 24/7 Technical Support for process and equipment.
Feb. 1995- Essilor of America, Inc.
March 1996 Engineer II (CIM Integrator);
Automated Manufacturing: Developed programs, assisted in design (Electrical/Mechanical), general process applications of machinery and start-up/debug for the Casting, Disassembly/Assembly and Coating processes for Lens Manufacturing. During prototyping, process review and startup/debug, instructed technicians and designers how to correct and/or modify mechanical and electrical problems. Used a multiple controller configuration of Adept MV’s and Allen Bradley PLC’s to control processes. Accomplished multiple robot systems by configuring and tuning the systems for use with multiple microprocessors, time slicing and multi-tasking.
Nov. 1992- Hampton-Tilley Associates
Feb. 1995 E lectrical Engineer;
Process Automation: Worked on automation for the following products and processes: Potato Chips, Bagels, Orange Juice, Bottled Water, Water Metering, Clean In Place Systems (CIP’s), Oil Pipelines, Power Generation, Filling, Casting, Coating, and Packaging Systems. Automated and controlled processes using multiple software packages to program a variety of Programmable Logic Controllers
(PLC’s – AB, Modicon, Omron, Siemens, Mitsubishi), Motion Controllers (Slo-Syn, Adept MV), Operator Interface Terminals (OIT’s – AB Panelview, AB ControlView, Viewpoint, Wonderware, FactoryMate), and Distributed Control System (DCS - Westinghouse). Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM): Accomplished CIM system by using the above controllers, systems, and software (to gather information) integrated with PC’s networked on a LAN system (to distribute the information) with additional programming through the use object embedded programs such as Microsoft Visual Basic, Borland Paradox, and Microsoft Excel using Open Database Connectivity (ODBC).
Drafting: Automated the construction of electrical wiring schematics using Microsoft Excel 5.0, Visual Basic, Attributed Block Libraries, and AutoCad Versions 9, 10, 11, and 12. Sep. 1991- Technology Strategic Planning, Inc.
Oct. 1992 Technology Analyst;
Data Collection & Analysis: Designed a Relational Database used to record, analyze, retrieve, and generate reports on current & developing technologies. Through the use of the Relational Database and gathered information, analyzed various nuclear space propulsion objectives for a manned mission to Mars.
