Duties:
Duties included processing data and inputting into the computer. Filing papers and sorting them into the correct file. I had to create labels on computer, to be placed, on the different stations and chemicals in the lab. I had to write up standard protocol procedures for the everyday task that I had to perform. Doing DNA extractions and making sure tubes were labeled correctly for the process. I helped package and ship seeds for testing to different parts of the world. I took time to ensure that the equipment used in the lab was functioning properly. I had to analyze data after experiment. I used the sterilization technique called autoclave to sterilize the tools that I was to use in the lab. Making sure the lab was clean at all times. Also was in charge of using the KLECO grinder to turn samples (seeds/tissue) into a powder form, in so they could be weighed and measured. Did acid de-linting to the cotton seeds, so, that we could, plant and test them. I had to dispose of many different hazardous chemicals. Took mandatory government training's to make sure I was up to date on the new standard procedures. I was the coordinator for the outreach program with the Genetics and Genomics department for USDA.
