Description:

MFP-CPE (Multi-Functional Peripherals-Current Product Engineering)

As a part of MFP-CPE team we qualify the MFPs that have been released into the market. Resolution of

the Customer defects and feature enhancements is the main focus of the project. Each product has about 3 CPE releases a year during which the fixed defects and the enhanced features are rigorously tested. Duration testing is an important stage of the release cycle and overall product development. The interaction between the printer software [Device driver] and firmware is subjected to test in Duration testing. Duration Testing is used to stress test the firmware over period of time. It uses automated file lists and random test selection lists provided in PATT (Product Automated Test Tool) with the intention of simulating a test environment pretty much similar to that at the customer site. DSS (Digital Sending Software), WJA (Web Jet Admin) and AntEater are the tools/software used to configure the MFP for all kinds of digital sending jobs and for interacting with the MFP remotely. It is critical to find out the major crashes in the printer engine. Triaging is done after Duration Testing. During Triaging, defects are ranked in terms of importance or priority. In the firmware terminology, it simply means characterization of a hang or a device crash. Memory Leak testing, ISE font testing and Performance testing forms an integral part of duration testing.

Responsibilities:

As a Duration Test Engineer my roles and responsibilities include

Set up the test config_spec to have correct rules in place to select correct test cases and scripts.

In case of crash/hang, logging of the defects in the defect tracking system (MIMS, Rational clear quest)

As a triage engineer I had to go through this data and find the responsible component for the crash or hang occurred and update the concerned development team regarding the same.

I have written shell and TCL scripts for focus duration testing in which any particular feature is tested and the fix (if any) is qualified.

Developed scripts for Job Accounting. The amount of data collected while running duration had to be streamlined to get a better idea of the pass/fail status of the test cases. This involved modifications of the existing TCL and shell scripts and creating new scripts to extract the data and present in a readable format to the customer.

As part of Memory leak testing I was involved in modifying the scripts for each product and run memory leak testing for all the features. In case of leaks the Alloc Ids are tagged with the responsible component and the reason for the leak had to be ascertained.

Automated the performance testcases and getting result updated in excel sheet using anteater and VB scripting.
