Solution & Product Management for SDN & NFV integration Sep 2015- Nov 2016

Project background: Most Telco customers need SDN & NFV integration, instead of SDN only in Data Center infrastructure. Nuage Network plans to offer an integration solution of SDN&NFV to meet customer requirement.

My activities and contributions: Deep dive in customer’s requirement, standard organization, and competitor’s solution; propose 3 SDN&NFV offering: NFV DC Interconnect; Dynamic Service Chaining, Virtual CPE. Create product requirement document (PRD), including customer use cases, solution architecture, integration interface, workflow, etc. Nuage Network will launch SDN&NFV integration offer in the next release.

TeraStream innovation project with Deutsche Telekom, Germany Feb 2013- May 2014

Project background: DT announced TeraStream project in 2012; transform current network infrastructure to purely Internet/Cloud based technology before 2018, called industrial players to participate this project. Huawei was invited in early 2013. The intention of this project is to decouple the software from hardware, application from platform, making the network flexible like Internet.

My activities and contributions: 1st presentation to DT on Huawei’s strategy, value proposition, solution overview and roadmap for NFV platform, April 2013. DT decided to cooperate with Huawei on OpenStack-based Cloud platform after the meeting. Had 2nd meeting with DT on the scope, blueprint, and feature June 2013. Define the solution, requirements and offer package with R&D, then have first POC (prove of concept), Sep 2013 with DT. Demos & detail discussion with DT during Sep to Dec 2013. Set up joint innovation lab for DT, Feb 2014. Hands on testing & demo, and specification definition with DT experts, OpenStack release upgrade from Grizzly to Havana.

Result: Official partner with DT on OpenStack platform; sole provider for Cloud EPC; break through on Cloud IMS.

Compello OpenStack consulting Dec 2013- Apr 2014

Project background: Compello is an innovative ISP in the Netherlands which wanted to offer competitive cloud service in Europe. They had a legacy cloud platform which was hard to maintain and upgrade, so they looked for a new platform, Openstack. But they didn’t have Openstack experience, and asked Huawei to help.

My activities and result: I did hands on demo of OpenStack to customers; explained architecture and Python open source code and JSON script level. Recommended block storage solution for customer, compared Huawei FusionStorage and Ceph. Customer deployed OpenStack based cloud service 2014 over Huawei’s blade server E9000.

Bonn Government IT transformation, Germany Jun 2013- Jun 2014

Project background: The city of Bonn government had traditional IT infrastructure HP server + Xen Server virtual platform + Windows server, which is difficult to maintain, complex to design and implement for redundant features. Opex saving and complexity reduction are their requirement for new cloud platform.

My activities and result: I wrote solution proposal and rough quotation for Bonn government to consider replacing separate IT piece with a Converged Infrastructure, which include X86 server + FusionSphere Cloud Platform + FusionStorage Server SAN + FusionNetwork virtual network, also consider active/backup redundancy auto configuration, FC autoload tape integration in June 2013. Customer started POC from Sep 2013 until Dec 2013 in 2 phases. Phase 1: basic function and VM migration test. Phase 2: redundant and Tape integration test. March 2014 we helped customer worked out tender, and in April closed the tender. June 2014, Huawei was chosen for commercial trial.

Huawei Internal IT transformation Sep 2011- Apr 2014

Project background: Huawei is a key customer of Oracle which used several sets of Exadata for financial analysis. The OLAP data volume exceeded 100GB and needed extensive processing capability of Exadata. Due to data increase, customer experienced slow slow BI report

My activities and result: I work with Huawei Internal IT department on two phased solutions. Phase 1: Use FusionCube to replace Exadata to get 2X data volume and 3X performance Aug 2014. Phase 2: Use Hadoop cluster replace ETL to reduce BI report time from 6 hours to 30 minutes.
