Capstone Paper:

The objective for our Capstone project was to raise awareness of two associated diseases, chronic pancreatitis and Type 3c Diabetes mellitus, which are increasing in prevalence in the United States and Europe. However, these illnesses are still relatively rare and often misdiagnosed leading to improper treatment. We chose to focus our paper on the importance of correctly diagnosing these illnesses in order to receive appropriate medical management to facilitate an overall better quality of life.

Recommended by faculty to transition first year Physician Assistant students to didactic year during an orientation day provided by MCPHS. Each leader was assigned 10 new students to answer any and all questions they had regarding test format, class schedule, and lecture styles of various faculty members. We provided tutoring services for any of the students that were having difficulty in a particular subject. Review sessions were created by us via PowerPoint for three review sessions which we held during the spring semester. (Per Diem)

On site phlebotomist at Brookline or Waltham location. Performed venipuncture for CBC, electrolytes, genetic screenings and a variety of other tests conferring to nurse’s orders. Trained new phlebotomists at the Brookline location. Also, responsible for collecting semen samples and conducting semen analysis for male viability before beginning the IVF process. Lastly, recruited patients for Estrogen and Progesterone saliva studies for those who were needle phobic. (30-40 hrs. per week)

Organized hundreds of frozen sample records and freezer samples for easy accessibility in the Pathology department. Performed immunohistochemistry staining on patient samples in Clinical Pathology for many residents and Pathologists. Throughout my time at the Brigham I was able to observe pathology assistants who performed gross examinations of surgical tissues and autopsies. I was able to attend Pathology conferences monthly as well. (40 hrs. per week)

2007 Summer Undergraduate Stonehill College Easton, MA

Research Assistant Biology Department

Research was designed to detect the antibody response in northern leopard frogs by ELISA using reagents developed in Xenopus species. Performing these tests would help us better understand the adaptive immune response of frogs and may give us a clue to their decline in population. I was in charge of the maintenance of these two species as well as catching local species in nearby woods and swamps to test as well. (40 hrs. per week)
