I have designed and developed top-of-the-line training for a number of companies (large and small) and for a variety of industries. Early on, I worked in Flash, Flex and ActionScript to deliver products for clients. Today I work nearly exclusively in web and mobile technologies, and always strive to create excellent user experiences. I am very proud of my work, some of which is award-winning.
Some highlights:
Produced Chest Tubes product for Banner Health Systems, which received very high satisfaction ratings from learners and won a Silver Medal from the Brandon Hall of Fame Awards.
Supported the Institute for Social and Environmental Transition (ISET) on a number of technology initiatives:
oCustom website
oISET Modules web application for instructor-led training
oIT support – Mac, PC, Linux, private cloud NAS
Served as a consultant to Scrum Alliance, Scaling Scrum, and Mountain Goat Software Agile Academy. For all clients, delivered training to stakeholders on the requirements for writing defensible assessments aligned to their courseware, as well as developed and edited multiple certification exams. Also Supported Mountain Goat Software Agile Academy in setting up a voiceover studio, producing courseware, developing worksheets and writing assessments
Web Application Developer, Instructional Technology Architect (ITA), July 2012 to June 2017
Bank of America, Charlotte, NC (telecommute)
As a Web Application Developer with the Global Technology and Operations UX team, I used Subversion, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, jQuery, SQL and OpenText to develop web applications within the bank.
As a valued member of the elite 9-member Instructional Technology Architects (ITA) team in the Global Learning Organization, I participated in some of the most innovative, trend-setting and cutting-edge training within the bank. All solutions were custom-built and were highly engaging, including simulations, games, and custom learning portals.
On all projects, our team was responsible for the entire software lifecycle and interfaced directly with clients, SMEs, and IDs. I consistently participated in and was responsible for:
Brainstorming and finalizing RFPs and SOWs
Creating requirements and analysis documents
Designing solutions, including mockups, wireframes and prototypes
Writing code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, SharePoint, SQL Server)
Testing during development, alpha and beta releases
Deployment
Production support (maintenance, client training)
Some highlights include:
Creating a Mentor/Mentee sign-up portal where employees could be matched with more senior members with similar interests. This project won a bronze award as third-best technology innovation within the bank in 2015.
Coding the backend and middleware of an audio-based customer support evaluation tool. The project earned high praise within the bank for improving customer support.
Working in Flex, Flash and ActionScript to design and develop a check processing simulation learning tool for bank tellers.
Instructional Designer, Curriculum Developer, Multimedia Developer, January 2010 to January 2012
Affiliated Computer Services (ACS), (now Xerox), Dallas, TX (telecommute)
As an ACS (now Xerox) contractor, and later as an employee, I created instructor-led and web-based learning products for Ernst & Young.
Using Adobe Presenter, I created several interactive EY courses for mid- to senior-level learners in the financial industries. Online projects included audio, video, simulations, and Flash programming.
Some highlights include:
Completing in-house training on writing measurable certification questions according to the strict requirements of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), and then working with subject matter experts to develop eLearning and accompanying certification questions for Ernst & Young auditors.
Traveling to client locations to facilitate design sessions with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
Engineer III, February 2008 – July 2008
Space Science Institute (SSI), Boulder, CO
At SSI, I served as web admin, web developer and multimedia creator for CICLOPS, the group responsible for processing images received from the Cassini spacecraft in orbit around Saturn. I wrote code in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL. I also performed basic Linux administration.
Some highlights include:
Using mod_rewrites, auto-generated titles and descriptions, keyword lists, meta tags, and other search engine optimization (SEO) techniques to take CICLOPS image results from page 8 of Google search results to page 1 within two weeks.
Enjoying an evening of conversation with Richard Dawkins at the house of my boss, Carolyn Porco – two titans in their respective fields.
Flex / Flash / ActionScript 3 Developer, November 2007 – January 2008
National Cinemedia, Centennial, CO
I worked for National Cinemedia as a contractor through Robert Half. While there, I was part of a small team tasked with creating a customizable portal for movie fans. I coded Flash and ActionScript widgets via AS3 classes that resided in a Flex container.
One highlight:
I created a proof of concept FaceBook app using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and FaceBook's API.

Sun Microsystems (now Oracle), Broomfield, CO
I worked as a contractor for Sun Microsystems (now Oracle) for just over 2 years, providing multimedia services to several different divisions.
Some highlights include:
Revamping Sun's Web Demo Player. A company in California had created a beautiful interface. However, the functionality of the player left a lot to be desired. On my own initiative, I rewrote the entire Flash source code to be more flexible and user-friendly.
Programming custom VBA scripts to convert Star Office to PowerPoint documents resulting in huge productivity gains.
Capturing remote desktop systems worldwide using VNC. Operating systems consisted of Linux, Mac OS, Solaris, Java Desktop Systems, Unix and Windows.

While completing those projects, I accepted the role as Creative Director of the Art department. As manager to 15 employees, I oversaw compensation, performance reviews and art direction. My time with the Art department was intentionally planned with HR to last long enough to stabilize the situation and hire a new Art Director, which I did in about 6 months’ time. After that, I moved in to the position of Marketing Project Manager for the remainder of my time at the company.
Some highlights include:
Producing a custom help system for the company’s eLearning portal tool.
