PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS

HYSITRON INC (NANOMECHANICAL TEST INSTRUMENTS)

Senior Mechanical Engineer- Eden Prairie, MN (June 2012 to June 2016)

Led cross functional teams in R&D for successfully development of nanotechnology precision products, production assembly and calibration/test tooling and fixtures.

Conceptualized and developed Bio-indenter device which perform indentation with scanning. Invented folded piezoelectric tube mechanism which fit in a small platform to accomplish these tasks. This device is for studying the aging effect on human skin by research institutions.

Developed INTRASPECT360 DEVICE used for Quantitative, in-situ mechanical property characterization in X-Ray microscopes (XRM).

Developed devices which work inside scanning electron microscopes (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM).

Designed and developed BioSoft - In-Situ Indenter instrument for multi scale quantitative mechanical testing of biological materials and soft matter such as hydro gels.

Extensively used Solid Works 3D CAD system and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) skills to accomplish the tasks successfully.

MEDTRONIC

Contract Manufacturing Process Engineer – Mounds View, MN (Aug 2011– Dec 2011)

Worked for process and equipment development during new product development of therapy delivery products like remote implant pressure sensing devices for heart.

Performed Initial Characterization and Validation work to establish process capability across window of process settings for the new equipment before the equipment transferred to an international manufacturing facility. Used statistical six sigma tools like GR&R, DOE and Capability study to accomplish these tasks.

Learned process validation procedures, IQ/OQ/PQ traceability and Design History File (DHF) development.

SHAM NAYAR PAGE TWO

SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY

Mechanical Design Staff Engineer (1997 – 2009)

Focus was on conceptualization, design, development and implementation of automated and manual assembly line tools, precision devices, measurement systems and robust processes to improve the methodology for high volume production of disc drives in clean room environment. Found best fit simple solutions for complex problems. Worked on process and equipment validation for multiple projects

Saved rework and product failure costs in millions by designing a pick and place end-effector to handle clinging filter parts for Factory of Future automated lines. Two US Patents granted for this invention.

Saved millions of dollars for the company by designing precision tooling and software (in ’C’ language), which interfaced with a Laser Mike measurement system to measure head stack assemblies within 0.0001 inch. Software included graphical user interface to aid user in identifying head arms, which do not meet specifications and statistical process control. Successfully led the implementation of over 100 machines with full process and equipment validation worldwide.

Solved a major manufacturing problem, saved cost and improved quality by developing Disc Drive Top Cover Removal Machines for high volume automated rework production lines. US Patent granted for this invention.

Reduced cost and process implementation time and eliminated scope for error by inventing a novel Adjustable Teeth Height Head Stack Measurement Comb. This device is used in the development and setup of critical parameters for pitch and roll measurements of read / writes heads. Multiple next generation products developed on this platform; US Patent granted for this invention.

Increased productivity and process reliability by developing Expanding and Contracting Collet Devices for Head Stack Holding Fixtures for precision measurement. Two US Patents granted for these inventions.

Designed Disc Slip Tester machine and software (‘C’ language was used to create controlling software and graphic interface).
