Project during B.E Program:

Jointly undertook a research project on “Biotechnological process of composting and field evaluation studies”, under the guidance of Dr. Rangaswamy, Dr. Ravishankar, and Mr. Gangaraju at BIET, Davanagere.

Summary of the project: This study examined the impact of vermicompost on tomato plants. The study involved production of vermicompost using vegetable waste collected from the students’ hostels, which was decomposed using earthworms (Eisenia fetida) in constructed pits. Three separate experimental plots were prepared and planted with tomato crop. While one plot was treated with vermicompost, the other two plots were treated for chemical fertilizer and control. Several indicators of soil fertility such as PH, nitrogen, phosphorous, potash, and organic carbon were measured before and after the treatment. A comparison of tomato yield indicated that plants grown with vermicompost had 40% and 133% higher yields compared to chemical fertilizer and control plots, respectively. The study concluded that application of vermicompost is much better than chemical fertilizers for tomato crop.

Professional Training:

Undertook training courses in Shreedhar Bhat’s Laboratory on “Genetic Manipulation of Tobacco Plant with Annexin Gene through Agrobacterium Mediated Transformation and Immunology”, during April–May, 2007. Hands on experience on following techniques were acquired during the training program:
