I am an ambitious and highly motivated postgraduate looking for flexible academic work. I have previously worked in a constituency office and am now seeking opportunities within Parliament. I have worked in the USA, China and in the United Kingdom which has given me the ability to adapt and thrive in different environments. I speak Mandarin to a high level and have an in-depth knowledge of Asian International Relations. It is my long term career objective to become an advisor to a minster in a labour majority government.

Education and Qualifications:

University of Durham, MA International Relations (East Asia) 2016-Present

Modules included: Nationalism, Revolution and Reform in Contemporary China, Strategic Asia, Human Rights, International Relations Theory, Model United Nations and a 15,000 word dissertation. The dissertation investigated how local Guangzhou (China) residents perceived recent migrants from African. This required extensive fieldwork conducted by myself in China.

This course allowed me to develop the skills necessary to critically evaluate complex theories and paradigms in the field of international relations. It has required me to research, develop and employ different research strategies in order to investigate multifaceted problems as part of an in-depth piece of work This I feel would be hugely beneficial in dealing with the complicated problems of constituents.

University of Wales, Swansea, BA (Hons) American Studies (1st class) 2009-2013

My degree included an intercalary year of study at the University of Central Oklahoma, as well as a thesis defence, and a 10,000 word dissertation on the Obama Administration’s first term drug policy (Grade: 75%). I remain interested in American politics and I am following development there closely.

Study Abroad Year (University of Central Oklahoma) 2011-2012

• Studying abroad gave me the skills to adapt to an unfamiliar environment and embace cultural differences, while still achieving good grades and working part-time in a Quiznos Restaurant for 20 hours per week.

• Built interpersonal relationships with people from all over the world.

• Gave detailed presentations both during my course and for extracurricular activities.

Oxted School 2002-2009

A-levels: Classical Civilisations, Communication Studies, Philosophy and Ethics

GCSEs: 9 A-C including: History, Sociology and Drama
