Internship for IHDR at The University of Texas at San Antonio:
Completed my internship with the Health Disparities Research Organization at UTSA.
Worked a total of 150 hours in the office.
As public health students attending UTSA, we raised awareness and peer educated on HIV, Alcoholism, Hepatitis A,B &C, and condom negotiation and practice skills during a two year period. I participated in passing out environmental surveys with 100% feedback from students. I worked with data and inputting the responses into an excel worksheet for record keeping and future research purposes.

I was a part-time medical scribe while attending college. It was my duty to review and complete patient charts while inputting this information into an electronic medical record online during their office visit. I sent out laboratory tests, electronically transferred prescriptions to the pharmacies with Doctor’s approval. I gained 100% accuracy with medical terminology and patient’s reason for visit while ensuring a better performance done by Dr. Apsley.

As a medical scribe employee, I gained certification in medical terminology and hospital coding for the Christus Santa Rosa department of San Antonio. I learned proper documentation and coding procedures in the ER department for the physicians. I worked with over 10 physicians and learned how they document and treat patients individually.

During my Junior year at UTSA, I was a member of the Pre-PA society on campus. We organized meetings and completed 50 volunteer hours at Corazon Clinic.
