Professional Experience

Raytheon Rancho Innovations (RMS), Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer (Secret Clearance) 2001 to Present

Key projects:

●Served as lead mmW design engineer for several DARPA and customer funded mmW High-speed comm links. Tasks included specification development, system analysis and modeling, hardware design, test, system integration, and customer presentations. Designed the mmW up/down converters, filters, synthesizers, and power amplifiers

●Lead design engineer for a 40Gbps E-band point to point link. Successfully fielded a rapid prototype system in less than 4 months exceeding customer expectations

●Designed several microwave and mmW transmit/receive modules from concept to fabrication. Delivered hardware on aggressive schedules to support fast paced program schedules

●Experienced in designing various RF/microwave circuit boards and hybrid assemblies, utilizing both SMT packaged components and bare die. Tasks included component selection, detailed modeling and simulation, and layout and fabrication

●Strong background in antenna theory and design. Designed and analyzed several antenna systems including reflector antennas, phased arrays, and various other radiators. Created unique antenna solutions for several programs

●Developed extensive antenna codes used to model reflector antennas and phased arrays using C++ and Matlab. Utilized software to design high performance reflector antennas and develop beam steering algorithms. Created software to perform and process near-field measurements of antennas, which is vital to antenna performance characterization

●MMIC design experience using Raytheon’s GaAs and GaN processes. Designed driver amplifiers, power amplifiers, mixers, modulators, integrated antennas, and multipliers

●Designed several key low-loss waveguide to microstrip transitions from 50GHz to 220GHz. This component technology was a key enabler for the larger system

●Member of team that designed and fielded a 95GHz 6.4kW transmit phased array for active denial applications. Involved with module design, measurement, calibration, and system integration. System developed over a period of 8 years of R&D and prototyping.

●Designed CCA for a high speed 10Gbps modem. Included simulation, schematic capture, and layout. Miniaturized the existing CCA by a factor of 4

●Designed and fabricated a V-band SAR transmit/receive module used for mmW imaging.Created chirp source hardware and test platform to collect SAR imaging data.

●Designed various microwave and mmW filters using stripline, microstrip, and waveguide technologies. Designed high performance low-loss diplexer filters for use in several comm links

●Antenna modeling and analysis for GPS array receiver. Designed antenna elements and array and analyzed performance of array installed on host system. This model enabled accurate system simulations to be performed to evaluate different receive algorithms.

●Developed a L-band high peak-power transmitter for use in a phased array application. Tasks involved component selection, component characterization, circuit optimization, and fabrication

●Part of team that developed S-band transmitter module for a space application. Responsible for test, measurement, and characterization of components

●Responsible for highly specialized test and measurements of microwave and mmW devices, including automated load-pull, wafer probing, and use of all typical RF test and measurement equipment. Used data to develop detailed device models

Relevant Skills

Software Tools:

●Proficient in Ansys HFSS, Ansys Electronics Desktop, Keysight ADS Momentum, Keysight Genesys, Matlab

●Custom antenna analysis codes, physical optics, FDTD, C/C++

●Altium Designer and LT Spice used for circuit design, schematic capture, and layout

●Optimization, Design of Experiments (DOE), Parametric Models
