Experience
Chemical Research Assistant / Research Project Analyst; Fall & Winter 2016
Louisiana State University / Chemical Engineering Dept.; Baton Rouge, LA
Competitively selected for this internship to assist Dr. Romagnoli with accountability for executing an on-line control strategy of crystal properties in noniso-thermal antisolvent crystallization processes to control particles’ mean size and standard deviation. Ensured accurate findings by overseeing laboratory equipment and instrument set-up as well as conducting calibration, repairs and maintenance operation on instruments as required by protocol.
Developed new experimental and computational tools for accelerating production of crystals. Recognized for high quality work on projects involving ground-breaking research and techniques with significant practical application. Produced reliable data by preparing test solutions, compounds, and reagents to carry out lab test procedures and from interpreting and analyzing results obtained from instruments using MATLAB program.
Class Project Team Member; Spring 2016
Louisiana State University / Chemical Engineering Dept.; Baton Rouge, LA
For Process Design course, worked on a team of 4 senior engineering students for a semester-long project focusing on design and construction of a Cumene plant engineered to produce a specific volume of Cumene annually. Conducted research on best practices to ensure economical and environmentally safe plant processes. Displayed literature for common processes to produce Cumene, calculated input/output and recycle mass balances, and estimated the cost of raw materials. Created a virtual simulation of the plant using Aspen HYSYS program and equipment specification from literature sources. Explored alternative methods, ran virtual simulations and economic evaluations as needed and presented findings.
For Unit Operations Lab, worked on microscale reactors within a 3-member team. Conducted troubleshooting to determine ideal parameters for a liquid-liquid extraction column. Tuned a PID controller for a shell and tube heat exchanger to minimize overshoot of temperature change and response oscillation. Researched ideal running parameters for a homogenous catalytic reactor.
Chemical Engineer Intern; Winter, Spring & Summer 2015
Aluminum Technologies; Vacherie, LA
Worked in an industrial environment operating a pilot chemical plant in production of alumina. Assisted with a wide range of pilot plant operations, including start up, shut down, production support, flow monitoring, and product analysis. Worked with head engineers in developing accurate design calculations and documentation. Operated and monitored control boards, panel boards, and semi-automatic equipment to ensure functionality and efficiency. Prepared material, equipment, and resources.
Chemical Engineer Intern; Summer 2014
Aluminum Technologies; Vacherie, LA
Utilized state-of-the-art laboratory components to ensure function, efficiency, strength, and durability in testing and operations. Assisted in development of lab Standard Operating Procedures. Safely operated lab scale fluid bed reactor. Recognized patterns in data, information, and events. Provided senior management with logical conclusions and recommendations for improvement and corrections.
