EXPERIENCE

• Senior Research Associate, Algenol Biotech LLC, Fort Myers, FL Jan 2015 to Mar 2017 Responsibilities included studying complex contaminant community structure under different experimental conditions. Construction, operation & execution of lab-scale photo-bioreactor systems. Developed SOPs for microbial enumeration in natural food colorant products based on FDA BAM/AOAC methods. Worked with scientists to collect data and co-developed an extraction method to determine the yield of food colorant product to improve the scalability and economic feasibility of the production process. Role expanded in training research associates and junior technicians in several microbiology and molecular biology techniques and delegate tasks. Maintained documentation, logs related to the food colorant product. Accomplishments:

o Streamlined, optimized and implemented the qPCR process which was left in a less than optimal state (due to departure of personnel) to ensure timely quantification and accuracy of data which provided input to the management in making key decisions to control contamination o Co-developed, optimized and established high-throughput lab scale extraction method of food colorant product to increase sample capacity and minimized processing time o Proposed and executed a cost effective alternative method for contaminant identification

• Research Associate, Algenol Biotech LLC, Fort Myers, FL - Jan 2014 to Dec 2014 Responsibilities included developing a high-throughput method to monitor and enumerate contaminants

(heterotrophs) and to study the microbial community dynamics. Screened antimicrobials/chemicals and assisted to advance the efforts of contamination control strategies. Accomplishments:

o Instrumental in developing, optimizing, validating, trouble-shooting, SOP generation and executing qPCR methods which led to timely quantification of contaminants of high interest and understand the microbial community dynamics in several experiments which was crucial to the company’s objective to prevent the loss of the end product

o Key player in generating data critical to develop a novel strategy to efficiently control loss of end product, through problematic heterotrophs, that consequently led to filing of a patent application o Presented findings from several experiments to cross functional managers/directors and authored technical reports

PRIYANKA NARENDAR’S RESUME continued

• Senior Laboratory Technician, Algenol Biotech LLC, Fort Myers, FL - Jan 2011 to Dec 2013 o Systems Ecology Lab

Responsible to study and monitor the diversity of heterotrophic organisms (prokaryotes and eukaryotes) associated with non-axenic photo-autotrophic cultures in a closed photobioreactor system. This involved monitoring, isolation, characterization, identification using 16s/18s rRNA sequencing and archiving of heterotrophs and screen their ability to consume the end product (ethanol) . Accomplishments:

o Served as a primary curator of the entire collection of heterotrophic micro-organisms (2500+ bacterial and fungal contaminants) for the entire company

o Solely monitored contamination for the entire company and established a system in place for contamination monitoring and streamlined the process to ensure proper submission of samples, processing, archiving and timely turn around of results to the concerned team in an efficient manner o Culture Collection Lab

Responsibilities included maintenance and cultivation of axenic photo-autotrophic cultures from cryo-preservation through scale up which served as inoculum for large scale experiments. Operated, maintained, sampled 22L photo bioreactor systems. Routine QC assessments were performed on the inoculum cultures using microscopy

(DAPI/SYBR staining). Performed biochemical assays to monitor fermentation pathway enzyme activity in photo- autotrophic cultures.
