WORK EXPERIENCE
Engineering Student Assistant California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) 08/2015 – Present Work alongside a professional engineer in the Structure Specification Research and Development Branch.
Assist in research, development, and review bridge and transportation related structure specifications
Develop, populate, and maintain Access database to use for prioritizing and tracking progress of specifications
Prepare correspondence, route revised specifications to stakeholders and industry for comment; evaluate and analyze responses
Observe construction techniques, materials, and methods used in bridge and building construction projects RELATED COURSES AND PROJECTS
Transportation Engineering
Reinforced Concrete Design
Franklin Boulevard Complete Streets Project CSUS 08/2015 – 05/2017 With a team, worked on a 1.6-mile streetscape improvement project that aims to improve the corridor’s public-private interface, aesthetics, urban design quality, and mitigate the negative impacts of the existing auto-oriented environment.
Researched Caltrans and City of Sacramento specifications to prepare a thorough work plan to present to the client
Used Google Earth to find practical and efficient design alternatives for the project area, and compose an alternatives design report for client review and alternative selection
Performed pavement design calculations and selected a Low Impact Development, LID, design for the corridor EERI: Seismic Design Competition CSUS 08/2015 – 03/2017 With a team, designed and constructed a cost-effective miniature balsa wood frame building to resist seismic loadings.
Researched history of the project area and gathered soil information for a detailed project proposal
Calculated a cost benefit analysis of the structure for 100 year design life
Performed fundamental mathematical calculations to predict seismic reaction results
Presented structure design predictions and technical findings to a panel of professional engineering judges UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH
Testing GFRP for Wall Connections University of Utah 06/2016 - 07/2016 Worked in a structures lab alongside a civil engineering professor and a graduate student to test the effectiveness of glass fiber reinforced polymers, GFRP, for wall connections and new construction.
Prepared reinforced concrete walls and properly applied GFRP to walls for testing
Collected data on a daily basis for future analysis and commented on findings
Analyzed test results for research reports
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Plane and Topographic Surveying CSUS 01/2016 - 05/2016
Performed geometric calculations and measurement of distance, direction, angles and elevations
Learned to apply field data to traverse computations, estimation of earthwork volumes, transportation facility design, construction layout, and legal aspects of surveying Software
MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)), Civil 3D Web development experience: Google Sites; Drupal (Open Source Software) Bilingual
Speak, read, and write fluent English and Spanish
