Designed a new 12kV, 3 phase, 200 amp underground service to replace an existing overhead service in order to reduce the electrical tariff rate of existing tenants. Based on calculations of existing and future loads, specified continuous and short circuit rating of switchgear and main circuit breaker.

Projects:
Mesa Greenfield Water Reclamation Expansion Project – September 2016
Designed the power distribution system of the new Headworks facility. Performed load calculations and designed a primary selective feeder configuration and two power distribution centers (12kV to 480V, 3 phase, 1500 kVA transformers) to provide power to a 480V, 3 phase, 2000 amp secondary selective feeder switchgear. Designed two motor control centers also, which were fed from the 2000 amp switchgear. Continuous amp rating of switchgear, MCCs and size of protective devices, conduit, conductors and controllers/ motor starters were based on load calculations. Short circuit ratings of switchgear and MCCs were calculated from available short circuit of transformers and conductors’ impedance. Developed single line diagrams, building and equipment layouts.
Aurora Pump Station Arc Flash Study - June 2016
Met safety requirement by reducing arc flash incident at electrical distribution equipment to no more than 12 cal/cm2 at various waste water pump stations in Aurora, CO. Arc flash analysis performed using ETAP power systems analysis software.
Penmar and Temescal Water Quality Improvement - July 2016
Designed service entrance switchgear, power distribution switchboards and power distribution system for water reclamation plant improvement project located in Los Angeles, CA. Reviewed equipment specifications and managed construction of electrical power distribution equipment.
Resolved Requests For Information (RFIs) during construction, including grounding and bonding issues, correctness of single lines for feeders shown and accuracy of conduit and equipment layouts for service entrance switchboards.

Performed coordination study for substation’s protective devices. Created time coordination curves for utility and substation reclosers, and substation fuses; was approved by PG&E utility management.

Led project management, led design review and supervised implementation of medium voltage power generation and distribution system. Designed medium voltage 2.4 kV service entrance switchgear, and reviewed/ approved the design of 4MW Uninterruptible Power Supply consisting of eight 250 kW power conversion compartments complete with rectifiers, batteries and IGBT inverters capable of providing 4MW of power for 1 minute during transition from commercial power to generators. Reviewed/ approved the design of medium voltage generator switchgear as well as redundant medium voltage power distribution switchgear, which directly fed site equipment loads.
G86 Substation Upgrade February 2011
Troubleshooting of 480V, 3 phase, 1000 amp substation, which fed a operations building for telemetry antennas. Wrote a root cause analysis report which revealed overload condition due to simultaneous operation of chillers. Led project management, created design and led implementation of medium voltage substation and low voltage dual redundant switchgear. Task was completed according to schedule and under budgeted cost.

Apollo Medium Voltage Switchboard Upgrade Project March 2007
Wrote a root cause analysis of a failure in 12 kV MV switchboard due to fault current. incident caused the 12 kV transmission for the entire complex to be lost for 8 hours. Miscoordination of fuses on a feeder circuit was discovered; fuses were replaced with MV circuit breaker and relays.
