Quality Engineer, I

Provide parametric analysis of Electrical, Functional & Environmental tests for RFID high and low frequency products to insure compliance to a given set of standards for production manufacturing readiness. Develop processes & procedures to comply with product marketing requirements. Collaborate with design engineers, product marketing, and manufacturing engineers to ensure a high level of product conformance. Participation with sustaining, administration & customer service to resolve issue as needed.

Experienced with 13.56 MHz readers using a multitude of communication protocols between credential and reader including: Pico15693, Pico14443B, Felica and International Standards Organization (ISO)15693, ISO14443A & B, and ISO7816 Smart card. Familiar with serial, UART, and I2C communication protocols (between microprocessors).

Reduced minor/major firmware test time in Design Verification Test (DVT) process, omitting redundant retest during bug fixes.

Documented DVT processes & procedures using TestRail (test collaboration software) & Confluence (collaborative wiki site) to archive reference materials, work & operating instructions for easy access by firmware, software & other department teams.

Setup and ran automated test fixtures reducing DVT time, for consuming repetitive read range and read quality bench testing.

Served as a constituent in a law suit for HID as an expert witness with customer codes in the low frequency Proximity RFID reader.

Associate Engineer - Hardware

Research & Develop (R&D) of RFID products & security systems. Work closely with design engineers to eliminate bugs & verify operation limits of new firmware releases applying processes like: environmental, electrical, functional, & parametric tests to reader designs. Procuring parts, component qualification, prototyping new products and troubleshooting hardware complications to root cause, aided by a strong understanding of documents, bills of material, schematics & electronic equipment are stable aspects of my knowledge base.

Collaborator in US Patent #8967476: Synchronization techniques in multi-frequency RFID readers used to coordinate, or manage activation & deactivation of multiple reader communication protocols within a single reader such that interference between disparate technologies is avoided.

Instrumental in adding a diode clamp to rectify a problem in a high volume product to save the company substantial cost in product returns and future problems.

Collaborated with hardware team to Design For Manufacturing (DFM) a family of low frequency proximity readers. The back bone of RF security readers, at the time about 70% of HID revenue.

HID (Palomar Technologies Corporation) 1995 - 2001

Research & Development (R&D) Assistant

Prototype reader hardware and procure parts for product development. Execute and generate parameters and criteria for electrical, functional & environmental testing.

Expert in low frequency (125KHz RFID) credential and proximity reader communication protocols including: ASK, FSK & PSK. Performed reader & credential read range & windows tests to perfect & ensure that credential and reader would perform flawlessly guaranteeing HID/Palomar’s high standard over the life of the device.

Hardware evaluation and research prototyping PCBA, CCA and low frequency RF antenna designs.

Tested multi-channel security system, provided hardware prototyping, and product test of controller & peripheral devices involving two way data transfer between accessories using low frequency RF coax communication.

Tracked and completed calibration of company equipment on a yearly basis.
