Community Hospital, Boca Raton, FL Conceptual design for Open Heart Surgery Program Brief Description of My Background and Responsibilities My Architectural background is in Healthcare. The following paragraphs are a brief description of additional areas of expertise that I feel are extremely important during schematic design and eventually the completion of the project.

Code Review and Life Safety Analysis

During the interior space planning (schematic and design development), it was my responsibility to insure that every travel distance, location of each exit door, occupant load and exit capacity were met. Coordinated and adjusted the Fire compartments and Smoke compartments during the development of the proposed department lay-outs. Reviewed each project with the State of Florida’s Healthcare review board, A.H.C.A.

(American Health Care Administration), responded to their comments and provided drawings for the C.O.N. Medical Equipment Planning, Interior Space Planning I was extensively involved with the development of the medical equipment plans, which involved the function, placement and utility requirements. I coordinated with the owner their equipment selection, i.e.: Stryker, GE Medical, Hill-Rom etc. as well as developed the equipment books, legends and programs for each department. I directed the user meetings, created the schematic floor plans and presentation drawings (mostly by hand). As for the scheduling of equipment installation, I reviewed with the vendor and contractor the delivery date of installation and verified that all the necessary utilities and structural requirements for equipment were met. A.D.A. American with Disability Act / Handicap Code The importance of designing a facility for those that were handicap, in the state of Florida, became more prevalent when the A.D.A. (Americans Disability Act Guidelines) was passed in 1990 and became a federal regulation in 1992. I have clear understanding and in-depth knowledge of the handicap code. Items such as telephones, toilets and water fountains, just to name a few, now have guidelines with respect to height and floor clearances. During as early as schematic design, I am well aware of not only those items I've previously mentioned, but alert to other aspects such as turning radius, grab bars and ramps. Having a firm understanding of the handicap code is one of the reasons the projects were very successful with receiving approval from the state and obtaining a building permit in a timely manner Robert F.C.
