To Whom It May Concern:

I received a BGS degree in 1978 in the fields of Botany, Microbiology and Zoology. In in 1982, I went back to college 1986 on a class-by-class basis, taking more upper division classes in botany, microbiology and chemistry. After obtaining A grade from Organic 311, I petitioned the Chemistry Dept. at Weber State to grant me an academic minor in chemistry based on the classes I had completed. The classes had emphasis on Analytical chemistry. The faculty agreed to grant me an academic minor in chemistry, and gave me a letter signed by the head of the department.

My work experience started in April 1980 at Western Zirconium, (Ogden, Utah) as a Chem Tech II. On May 1981, I was promoted to a Chem tech lll. On July of 1983 I was promoted to Chem Tech lV. My duties as a Chem Tech included sample prep, wet chemical analysis and the use of ISE’s, colorimertry, FTIR, and ICP. On about March of 1984, I was promoted to Chemist I. Duties included working a 4-days on, 4-days off, 4-nights on, 4-days off, 12 1/2 hr. shifts to analyze samples from the Chlorinations and Separations Depts. for the operators to maintain the chemical balances in the hourly operations. I was working by myself and in charge of the ICP off shift. I was also given a project when the Separations Dept. was down to make a Karl-Fisher unit to measure moisture in magnesium chloride, a byproduct of the reduction of zirconium tetrachloride with magnesium metal, which I completed from design to operational, in three weeks, using ISE technology.

After ~6 years of not getting a promotion an being stuck on shiftwork, I requested a demotion back to a Chem Tech IV position on the grounds that I had proven myself over and over on my qualifications for a promotion. Having no grounds to deny my request, I was made a Chem Tech IV and taken off the rotation shift. When they came to me with chemist duties, I told them I was not qualified in management’s eyes to be a chemist, but did the work anyway because the chemists they had could not do it, and I would not let down the company.

About March of 1990 I went on loan to another Westinghouse facility called Aptus, at Exit 91, on the way to Wendover, where I accepted a position of chemist II in May of 1992. The company was later sold to Rollins then to Safety-Kleen. In May of 1991, I was promoted to Sr. Chemist. Accomplishments as a Sr. chemist include;1) optimization of a ARL 3410 ICP to limits that the ALR engineers said the ICP was not capable of performing at those low levels, 2) Optimization of a Leeman Labs Hg Analyzer from 10ppt to 1ppb. About 14 months later I was promoted to Lab Supervisor over the Metals Dept. In Feb of 1993, my position was cut and I was out of a job.

Because of medical reasons at the time, my sister advised me to apply for Social Security Disability, which was granted. At this point in my life, I want to return to the workforce.

Interests include: fruit and vegetable gardening, golf and helping neighbors.
