Design and Stress Analysis on Steering Knuckle of the Automobile Steering System Jan, 2016 – Mar, 2016 Objective: To reduce the weight and size to achieve higher speed and power by attaining higher strength and stiffness.
3-D Part Modeling of the steering knuckle considering standard dimensions using CATIA V5.
FE Modeling of the steering knuckle is done using 3-D Elements (Tet Elements, second order)
FE Model is run for analysis to check for Static Analysis.
Analysis is run for different materials under various loads such as forces and pressure, gravity and rotational velocity.
Design and Analysis of Car Bumper May, 2016 – Jul, 2016 Objective: To reduce the deformation of the bumper during collision using Polymers instead of steel, Aluminum, Rubber, Plastic to manufacture the bumper.
3-D Modeling of the bumper is done considering standard dimensions using CATIA V5.
FE Modeling of the bumper is done using 2-D Elements (Quad Elements) by extracting mid surface and assigning thickness after meshing.
Meshed model is run for analysis to check for Static Analysis. Design and Analysis of Automotive Chassis Aug, 2016 – Jan, 2017 Objective: To design a chassis and check for various thicknesses of the cross members, side members near high stress zones.
CAD Modeling of the chassis is done by considering the general specifications using CATIA V5.
Using Steel as the material, FE Modeling is done using 2-D Quad Elements by extracting mid surface since the thickness is uniform throughout the chassis for the cross and side members.
Analysis is run for different thicknesses for 2g, 3g load cases and results were analyzed.
Results prove that by changing the thickness of the cross member only at the critical point from 5mm to 7mm proves advantageous.
Stiffness-Damping Behavior of novel Composites by Geometric Repetitions Jan, 2017 – May, 2017 Objective: To design and develop a PU filled microstructure of Al material, where Al provides stiffness and PU provides damping.
Model is designed and developed on Abaqus using Part modeling by using geometric constraints.
Modeled design is assigned Al, PU (Polyurethane) and run for analysis to check for Tension, Compression and Shear.
Plane strain simulation is performed by applying Periodic Boundary Conditions (PBC).
Results show that, under applied load, maximum of the stresses are absorbed by PU allowing less stresses to be transferred through it. Can be replaced with various other metals for better performance. Accomplishments
