My position as a Histology Technician III used my extensive experience as a Histology Technician III for receiving, grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and cover slipping of surgical specimens and non-gyn cytology specimens from multiple medical facilities for light microscopy.

I also used the Lab Pulse 2850 VP microwave processor to process biopsies that requires extensive knowledge of fixation, dehydration, and paraffin infiltration for tissue processing. I have extensive knowledge of embedding surgical tissues that require specific orientation for optimal light microscopy and diagnosis. This may include but not limited to, biopsies, decalcified bone, and cell blocks.

I also performed levels for microtomy sectioning as requested that may be from 1-3 levels, or from 1-99 levels, serial sectioning, or exhausting of the tissue as requested for certain diagnostic evaluations.

I also received, triaged, and grossed non-gyn specimens submitted from various facilities. This will include, but not limited to, body fluids such as cerebrospinal fluids, pleural fluids, pericardial fluids, ascites, sputum’s, and urines.

I performed troubleshooting as needed whether it be for laboratory equipment, staining or processing problems. I can also evaluate how to handle problems during a power outage should this occur. I also provided training for in-house personnel or at other facilities as requested.

As a research histology technician, I was in charge of the EXAKT Laboratory department providing technical support as needed to prepare large plastic embedded specimens for light microscopy. This process includes the operation of equipment such as ISOMET wafering saws, EXKAT grinders and precise measurements using micrometers.

I also provided support for the Histology Lab as needed that required tissue processing using the Thermo Shandon processor, embedding, microtomy, and staining-manual and automated, and cover slipping of human and animal (mice, rats, pig, fowl) tissues. I performed special stains such as Movat’s Pentachrome, calcium, Mayer mucicarmine, GMS, AFB, Masson’s trichrome, Oil-Red-O, Gordon’s retic, Congo Red, and other special stains as requested.

I can easily perform, modify, or troubleshoot any special stain technique that is requested. I provided EXPERT frozen section microtomy on animal and human tissues that include, but not limited to, blood vessels, brain, bone, muscle and skin.

I also worked extensively in the immunohistochemistry lab that provided immunohistochemistry staining on animal tissues such as Factor VIII, BrdU, etc. I also maintained data as required by Cap and GLP for research protocols, and for experimentation. Part of my additional responsibilities included Assistant Safety Officer, Chemical Hygienic Officer, Hazardous Waste Manager, routine laboratory equipment and supplies, and training. I performed annual Chemical Hygiene training for the company, as well as annual chemical inventories for all of the company labs according to Federal, state and local regulations. I also coordinated scheduled pick up of chemical and biological waste produced by CVPath, Inc.
