Profile

Qualified as a mechanical maintenance fitter at Highveld Steel and Vanadium with experience in the steel industry. Progressed to a team leader over the vanadium furnaces before leaving. In the mining sector I was responsible for installations, maintenance and repairs of mechanical equipment, water reticulation throughout the hospital and villages and to the various areas in the mines, therefore also gained experience in basic plumbing and pipe-laying. I am employed by Anglo-American Thermal Coal in South Africa as a maintenance fitter. My Role as a fitter includes maintenance and repairs to all plant equipment.

Key Roles

Inspection and Maintenance this includes the upkeep of all sewage plants and water reticulations to plants and office areas

Installations. Installation of new pipe-lines pumps and motors

Inspection and Maintenance upkeep of line maintenance and plant efficiency

New installations Motor and pump systems, including hospital and village main reservoirs and pump stations. line installations to new and existing areas

Contractor management, maintenance and shutdown. Oversee and inspections of all contractor work

Fault finding and repairs on all plant equipment

Issuing of permits and work permits during large shut downs and outages a risk assessment and permit to work and line isolations carried out.

Cable Jointing as a team I assist with cable joints with electricians and assist with fault finding

Sampling water and logging of water consumption to different areas.

Computer skills. Logging of water readings and consumption on computer. Excel, word and PowerPoint

Rigging and welding carry out all rigging and welding in area of work

Acting foreman take over acting duties when foreman is on leave supervising all jobs and issuing of work to be carried out.

Starter at Highveld steel and vanadium in 1985 as an apprentice fitter and shortly after moved around Highveld as to gain experience in the different divisions such as rolling mill, structural mill, iron plant, central workshops and finally promoted in 1996 as a team leader at the vanadium smelter where I left in 2002.
