OBJECTIVE

Editor/reporter/photographer/musician/Packers fan ...

Not necessarily in that order, but those are just some of the things I've done during my career - one that is long, but one that I feel is still going strong, and one whose vast pool of experience will benefit one lucky employer.

With a unique set of experiences in business, in education and coaching, and as a 27-year veteran of the print industry, I understand the importance of communications, branding, promotion and accountability. Though my experiences haven’t included the candlestick maker, I have worked for a butcher and baker, as well as in a junk yard while earning money to finish a college degree. I understand the changing business landscape, but also know that there is a place that will not only value me as an employee, but as an honest, accountable and devoted person.

Employment as an editor, writer, photographer, videographer, Internet management, social media manager. I was employed as the editor of this weekly newspaper in Western Wisconsin for about 17 months. Duties included all that pertain to production and management of a weekly newspaper, including writing, editing, photography, videography and use of Quark Xpress and InDesign. Editor/writer/photographer

The Lakeland Times

Minocqua,WI

Start Date: January 2000 End Date: 2015

I was employed by The Lakeland Times for 16 years, where I filled many roles - from managing editor to a variety of other editing and reporting desks: sports, features, outdoors, business, advertorial, photography/videography, and special sections/supplements. The job changes within the same building came about due to a number of factors, including needs of the publication and planned and unplanned personnel changes.

The following are some of the positions I held while employed there ... Editor

The Lakeland Times

Minocqua,WI

Start Date: May 2000 End Date: October 2001

As editor of The Lakeland Times, I managed newsroom reporters, freelancers, correspondents and photographers. In addition to completing many of the tasks needed to get the job done well and on time, I was responsible for a news beat of my own, the handling of stories that developed from those beats, photography, and all news content. I was instrumental in assisting the newspaper make the jump from the

"cut and paste" mode of composition to electronic pagination, led the change from film to digital photography/videography composition and production, was instrumental in the design and implementation of upgrades in writing and composing tools for the newsroom, and helped to lead an award-winning, hardworking group of journalists.

Managing editor

The Lakeland Times

Minocqua,WI

Start Date: October 2001 End Date: January 2006

As managing editor of this twice-weekly newspaper, a staff of seven reporters and several correspondents were under my direction. In addition to handling daily assignments, holding staff meetings and managing the direction of the news department, I was also responsible for a myriad of other duties. These included managing photographers and assignments, handling incoming press releases and news items, editing copy submitted from writers and correspondents, as well as managing public relations issues. In addition, I was responsible for organization of content, laying out pages in Quark Xpress and art direction. Photo/special sections editor

The Lakeland Times

Minocqua,WI

Start Date: April 2006 End Date: October 2006

I was employed as photo and special sections editor by The Lakeland Times in Paril 2006. This position involved the management, compiling, formatting and archiving of all photographs at the newspaper. In addition to being the staff photographer, all photographic assignments were handled in coordination with the managing editor. As photo editor, I was responsible for selection and placement of photographs within the newspaper. In addition, I was responsible for all special sections - this included handling all editorial copy, graphics, photographs and production of the many sections produced throughout the year. During this time, I also took on many of the duties associated with the management of the newspaper's content management system. This included the uploading of all news content to the website. I also assisted in the establishment of a new website coordinated through 1-Up, a company that specialized in the management of newspaper websites.

Associate editor

The Lakeland Times

Minocqua,WI

Start Date: October 2006 End Date: January 2008

In October 2006, I assumed the responsibilities of associate editor, in addition to the photo and special section editor’s duties already under my job description. Working directly with the managing editor, I handled the community pages of the newspaper - writing, photographing, laying out pages and coordinating all press releases via postal mail and email. Editor

The Lakeland Times

Minocqua,WI

Start Date: January 2008 End Date: April 2013

When the managing editor resigned, I was asked by the publisher to step back into the news editor's position. This acceptance carried with it the duties that I had previously done as the associate editor and photo and special sections editor. As editor, I coordinated a full staff, covered my own news beats, and was responsible for the layout and production of the newspaper. Features editor

The Lakeland Times

Minocqua,WI

Start Date: April 2013 End Date: July 2015

I stepped away from the editor's desk in April 2013 to take on the responsibilities of the features editor. I remained in this position until July 2015. The reason for stepping away from the editor's desk was a planned and calculated move. I had been working with a talented and devoted employee to learn the job of editor and when we felt he was ready to resume that responsibility, I stepped away and into the features job. This position required me to write, photograph and produce the newspaper's feature section on a weekly basis. It also required coordination with the editor and other staff to complete the weekly duties on deadline each week. Incidentally, the final piece I produced for The Lakeland Times in July 2015, won a first place in the features division of the state newspaper association's annual contest. I left The Lakeland Times to accept the editor's position at the New Richmond News in New Richmond, WI. Expert/editor

Phillips,WI

Start Date: May 1990 End Date: May 2000

I left this job to accept the editor's position at The Lakeland Times.

Substitute teacher/coach

School District of Phillips

Phillips,WI

My wife and I relocated to Phillips when she accepted a teaching position with the school district. At the time, I was finishing my four-year degree in education and social studies by completing my student teaching assignment in Phillips. Because of limited job opportunities in my field at the time, I spent the next four years substitute teaching and coaching baseball and basketball. I coached within a basketball program that earned state tournament berths three times in five seasons, taking second place in 2001. That team lost by two points to Cuba City in the state championship game. The nine months prior to accepting the editor's position with THE-BEE was spent working at a local hardware store.
