Research and Design Projects
Projects for numerical class
● Calculation of Vapor/Liquid Equilibrium in a Flash Drum by Solution of Nonlinear Equations
● Mass Balances via Numerical Solution of Simultaneous Linear Algebraic Equations
● Linear and non-linear regression for mass transfer rates
● Analyze heat transfer and pressure drops in packed reactor beds.
Design of the Cylindr ical Vortex Separator for Fluid Mechanics class:
● Design a cylindrical vortex separator (CVS) for separating oil from oil-water mixtures arising in the production
operations with the high separation percent and lowest cost.
● Derive all the need equations for the design, made a spreadsheet for t rial and error in order to determine the best
design to get the best efficiency.
Power Plan Project for Thermodynamics class:
● Design a power plan for a building that can provide 25MW of power and hot water at 90C for the district. A reheat–
regenerative Rankine cycle with two turbines is used to increase the efficiency of the power plan. A stream of water at
50C is supply to the condenser to condense the outlet stream of the low pressure turbine. The hot water is a byproduct of
t he condenser.
