Experience 2004-2012
Northrop Grumman
Embedded Software Engineer Level 4
Wrote additional 4000 lines of code for the existing Joint STARS
program Health and BIT system to incorporate new hardware. Wrote
software to emulate hardware failures for operator training.
Participated in numerous Peer Reviews as Moderator, Author, or
Reviewer.
Wrote application and database management code to control the
Quality of Service parameters for new datalink and to allow the
ground station access to the Joint STARS Beyond Line of Site (BLOS)
network. Also wrote bash scripts to change configuration
parameters, extract device status, and capture and cleanup logs
from the various components of the BLOS network. This network added
email and internet access to the Joint STARS platform.
Implemented Technical Change Network Orders (TCNOs) for Windows and
Red Hat operating systems in the BLOS network - patch installation
and anti-virus updates. Traveled to customer site to install
updates.
Solved legacy software problems and implemented upgrades for the
maintenance Joint STARS program.
Wrote 3000 lines of code in 3 months for a data insertion,
analysis, and capture tool for a successful radar detection and
identification demonstration mission for the Joint STARS program.
Designed and wrote 15000 lines of application code to manage the
handover of data from one Joint STARS plane to another. This
involved sending and receiving a series of JTIDS messages between
planes with operator input. Guided four software engineers in this
task.
Designed and wrote 13000 lines of code to implement complex system
level filter algorithms to block the display of the various
entities (points, multipoint lines, areas of regular and irregular
shapes). The filters can be multipoint lines, circles, ellipses,
rectangles, or irregular shapes and the block can be on one side of
a line, or inside/outside a shape. Periodically each entity in the
system is compared to each filter and determined to be blocked from
display or not. Filters can be created, modified, turned on/off,
and deleted. Some of the entities move.
2001-2004
Mnemonics, Inc.
Senior Staff Software Engineer
Designed, wrote, and tested Tactical Information Broadcast Service
(TIBS) message processing software for a Software-Defined Radio
program. This software allowed the radio to be a receiver, a data
provider, or a master controller. Traveled to DET2 in Texas for
precertification testing. Led team of six software engineers.
Coded, tested, and integrated SATCOM Control Software for the
Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) waveforms for Digital
Modular Radio program. Rewrote the existing ranging algorithm to
increase accuracy and efficiency.
Experience 1991-2000
Northrop Grumman
(continued Senior Software Engineer
) Performed Preliminary Design, Detail Design, Code, Test, and
Integration of Command, Control and Intelligence (C2I) TADIL-J
message processing software including: Coordinate Attack Planning;
Surveillance and Control Datalink (SCDL) Uplink and Downlink
Managers; Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Message Encoding; and
Voice Communication Management Background Function Controller for
the Joint STARS Surveillance Plane development, upgrade, and
maintenance programs.
Wrote and resolved Software Trouble Reports for all areas of Joint
STARS.
1986-1989
Harris GCSD
Lead Engineer of Software
Performed Requirements Analysis and Preliminary Design of utility
and relational database software for the Voice Switching & Air
Traffic Control System for the Federal Aviation Administration.
1984-1986
Scientific Systems Services
Systems Analyst
Performed Design, Code, and Test of Data Base Generator, Data Base
Editor, and Event Processor software in a monitoring and control
system for nuclear power plants. Project Leader of six for Data
Base Executive Unit and miscellaneous custom man-machine interface
software.
1980-1984
Harris GASD
Senior Engineer
Performed Design, Code, Test, and Integration of Automatic Flight
Control, Communications, Built-in-Test/Redundancy Management, and
Navigation Subsystems for a fully automated attack helicopter.
Also wrote test programs to determine the accuracy of the
implementation of the Doppler navigation formulas.
Education 1980-1986
Florida Institute of Technology
27 hours completed toward M.S. in Computer Science.
1977-1980
