Who I am:
I am a professional bassist (electric, piccolo, and upright)
working around the Charlotte, NC area. I also teach lessons in bass and piano,
and I am a freelance recording engineer/producer. Yes, I really can back it
all up with references.Gigs:
I work 2-7 nights a week in a wide variety of musical situations.
In addition to being a freelance bassist-for-hire, I lead several commercial
and original projects. I am aslo a music producer and have produced or co-produced
several albums in the jazz and rock fields. Here's
sample of my recent production/engineering work. You can find bass examples
on the music page. I also play electric and upright bass on many of my recordings.Notable Gigs:
Leah Delaria (Actress/singer/comedienne), The Modernaires (Swing
era vocal group),
(Jazz flautist), The Henry Mancini Tribute Orchestra, as well as performances
with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. I have also done local TV appearances,
and a Christmas special that airs nationwide on PBS every season.Instruction:
I am a private music instructor in both electric and upright
bass and piano, with about 15-25 students a week. I am also the author of,
"Extreme Slap Bass" and "Slap bass: A Beginners Guide".Styles:
The styles I currently play the most are Jazz (big band to bebop
to fusion), Funk/R&B, blues, and the occasional Rock/Top 40 gig. I also
have quite a bit of experience with musicals and large production shows (yes,
I can read charts, and I'm not afraid of click tracks). Over the years, I
have played everything from country to heavy metal and all points in betweenEducation:
A.S. in Electric Bass Performance from Villa Maria College;
studied with former Spyro Gyra bassist Jim Kurzdorfer. B.A. in Music from
SUNY Buffalo. Jazz theory and improv studies with Frank Gerard. Audrey Schillo
