Leading a global program for a strategic commodity phase out and replacement working with strategic suppliers to develop new materials solutions, engineering and manufacturing processes. Accountable for leading a virtual, global (US, Mexico, Europe, Brazil and China) cross functional (engineering, manufacturing, product development/marketing and procurement) team. Responsible for developing the key performance indicators for the team, leveraging processes and technical findings from regions to regions and partnering with the strategic suppliers identified to provide new chemistry/materials. The team is also responsible for developing new guidelines for design engineers which will enable the rapid deployment of the new solutions to various components and parts globally.

The program has a total value of $45M: cost take out of $4M/year is expected with a 25% reduction year over year

September 2010 - April 2012 Asia Lead- Senior Manager [Director Level]- (based in Shenzhen, China)

Regional execution and delivery of product categories KPIs for cost ($55M) and quality ($1-12M)

Successfully executed Asia Materials Engineering and Technology strategy in less than one year; from a seed base grew Asia team by a factor 5 in one year; tripled capital investment in 3 years

Direction of two analytical/quality labs and materials engineering departments: China and India (including color development)

Advanced materials engineering solutions (including CFM) development for aesthetic/design and functionality

Delivered in India $1M cost reduction and quality solutions to 2 product engineering and manufacturing divisions

Delivered $10 million dollars in best cost countries sourcing projects

Delivered 9 materials engineering solutions at cost and quality to a major engineering platform transferred from US to Asia ($23M program)

Leveraged (exported) to Global organization multiple engineering solutions sourced in Asia: China, Japan, Korea

Attracted $500-$1M per year in capital funding over 5 years

2003- September 2010 (6 years 10 months) Global Senior Manager

Created, directed, organized and administered a Global Materials R&D, Analytical chemistry and Quality multicultural department (quintupled headcount in 4 years, increased budget (including capital) by a factor 2.5 in 3 years) leading to materials innovation integrated in products to be launched in 2010, 2011 and further

Created the core of an R&D group by recruiting top talents and seeding R&D projects in domain as varied as Health and Hygiene (water sanitization, air purification, descaling), Aesthetics

Architected vision and strategy for establishing a product development materials organization in Pacific Asia resulting in a materials development staffed activity in a technology centre in China within 2 years (tripled headcount in 1 year); obtained funding capital investment for >$1M

Negotiated joint development agreements with European and Japanese partners leading to technology transfer from Japan to Europe.($30M value)

Led department to develop and integrate in one year 5 innovative materials technologies with new suppliers into mega projects (>10M revenues) in North America and Latin America

Streamlined and centralized competitive intelligence activities from Brazil to China

Co-founder of a Michigan based Open Innovation coop regrouping non competing companies [Faurecia, Steel Case, Bissell] but sharing similar needs in various fields

1988 - 2002 Xerox Research Centre of Canada, Mississauga, ON, Canada

06/1997 - 12/2002 Member of Research Staff (Leader-G12), Department of Materials Analysis

Successfully established a nanotechnology laboratory that led to the first synthesis of polymers MEMS for a new a printing device

Defined a method to measure the quantity and/or nature of the material present on a printed sheet enabling the discovery that the printing of manuals for a large global corporation was not carried out with the adequate toner, thus allowing Xerox to request further testing by its prospective customer to better evaluate the Printing on Demand system (market estimated at $15 million)

Established relationships between the properties of materials and their performance during transfer from fuser rolls to paper, enabling a better design of these materials and consequently enabled a 20% reduction in development time

Demonstrated that resins used during the industrial production of toners were responsible for differences observed in the tribo performances; result was the elimination of interruptions in production therefore preventing a shortage of toners for the customers' sites (saved a potential loss of $10M+); obtained an award

Initiated and spear-headed collaboration since 1999 with Prof. Reynolds, Chemistry Dpt, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA, on Conductive Polymers for Printed Organic Electronic Applications

Secured financing from the Xerox Foundation for a collaboration between the Xerox Research Centre of Canada, and a U.S. university on nanotechnology; coached the Strategy and Economic Planning Lead and the Chief Engineer to establish the grant proposal

06/1994 - 06/1997 Member of Research Staff (Leader-G10), Direct Marking Materials Department

Established evaluation protocols of materials/inks for a new generation of printers as well as data analysis and reports

Established a testing laboratory for materials constituting inks for ink-jet printers

Analysed interaction levels between inks and substrate (wettability effect, etc.) leading to the understanding of compatibility issues resulting in improved integration inks/printheads

Obtained numerous awards

06/1988 - 07/1994 Member of Research Staff (G9), Exploratory Surface Science

Established a new laboratory intended for the study of polymeric materials, colloids and the study of the phenomena of surfaces (chromatographic techniques: HPLC/GPC; viscosity, light diffraction)

Demonstrated the nature of polymers and copolymers prepared by an in-house synthetic method (Stable Free Radical Polymerisation) thus enabling the chemists to improve their synthesis and the products quality. Initiated fundamental studies in the field of colloids, polymers, science of surfaces, for projects of applied research (dispersions, toners, ink, photoreceptors, etc.) that successfully led to the selection of dispersing polymeric agents for photoreceptors, and provided understanding of the adsorption of polymers on surfaces leading to the development of theoretical relations

6 articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals as well as numerous presentations at conferences
