LabRats is a highly successful and revolutionary

approach to education that inspires young people, aged 11 – 18, to love

learning about science and technology. After eight years of research and development, LabRats is currently preparing to leave the lab and begin full operations in San Diego County, California.

Member-California After school Network (CAN) STEM Committee

This committee was created by CAN to enhance the quality of STEM education in after-school programs, and to help create opportunities of more of California children to take part. It includes passionate leaders in STEM education from around the state. Dr. Carlson is an active and contributing member to this work. Media Experience

Dr. Carlson has been featured on many national media

outlets, including Time, Newsweek, US News and World Report, the New York Times, The Washington Journal, the San

Francisco Chronicle, the Boston Globe, Donahue, Newshour with Jim Lehrer, Science

Friday and National Public Radio amongst many others. In 2001, Dan Rather selected Dr. Carlson to be amongst the

2008 Discover Magazine named three members

of the Society for Amateur Scientists amongst the “50 Best Brains” in science

together with Steven Hawking and Bill Gates. Dr. Carlson personally lobbied Discover to secure the awards for his organization. (Dec)

2008 Profiled in New York Times, with Dr. Michelle Carlson,

2008 The Chicago Tribune recognized the

2007

At the request of the US Navy, Dr. Carlson served as MC for a national

conference for the Office of Naval Research in Washington, DC. In additional to

scientists and technologists, the event was attended by members of Congress and

high-ranking military officers. Dr. Carlson ran the event, hosted the conference

dinner, and took part in the formal introduction of the Secretary of the Navy,

Donald Winter, to the assembly. (July)
