QA Inspector Construction Management Division
Lead QA on four projects, including a sidewalk installation, concrete restoration, limestone cleaning and repair, and the construction of a new HazMat laboratory
Works closely with Contractor QC to ensure compliance with USACE QC process and the QC Plan; identifies field deficiencies based on compliance with contractual requirements, code and UFC requirements; recommends NCNs based on deficiencies or lack of closure on critical items.
Prepares daily reports and assists with monthly QA report for each project; assists with invoice reviews
Assists with Scope of Work preparation, change order preparation, and drawing and submittal reviews
Acts as a mentor to less experienced staff to build their understanding of drawings, specifications, code requirements and overall partnering with the Contractor
Follows up with project through full completion of punchlist.HazMat project included : Structure, curtain walls, water proofing, Roofing, Bio seal Level IV Lab.
Example of Problem Solving: When Mr. Uhlig assumed the role of Lead QA for the HazMat project the project was behind schedule and overall relationships with the Contractor were poor. Mr. Uhlig worked closely with the PM and Contractor to understand the schedule, identified existing problems and then worked with the QCM to establish better procedures for issue tracking and communications. The project came in on schedule, largely due to the increased partnering that was fostered by Mr. Uhlig.
QA Inspector Pentagon Renovation
Monitored construction activities of the 4M sf renovation of Wedges 2-5 of the Pentagon, with specific focus on structural demo and repair/replacement; asbestos and lead abatement, and general demo.
Acted as sole coverage for the night shift. Responsible for documenting all work and/or issues so that a seamless transition of work to the day shift was possible.
Example of Problem Solving: The renovation of the Pentagon is the largest design-build office renovation in the U.S, also notable because the renovation was completed in an occupied facility. Mr. Uhlig increased his overall responsibilities on the project by acting as the POC for all noise complaints that came in after hours. Mr. Uhlig met with concerned tenants, monitored noise levels, and worked with the Contractor to rephrase work activities to minimize disruptions to the tenants and managed to keep the contractor on schedule with no significant work stoppages.
