Is it compulsory at the moment to list school names? I know my resume never included my primary school for example. Many CVs I have seen simply include the number of A levels, GCSEs etc without always including the name of the school.

I can see some benefit to having school names, particularly if the person involved has little or no experience or other education they need to be able to check something. But I dont see why it would need to be compulsory as I think most of the time if it is useful it will be included; why shoot your application in the foot by not being willing to disclose something that the employer may want to know and find useful?

Sounds to me like an underhand way to descriminate by class, you can tell someones background by looking at their schools. Putting the school on the CV ought to make no difference, qualifications ought to speak for themselves, indeed if you went to a recognisably bad school and got good qualifications then it ought to be viewed as positive, however you cannot help feeling that there are some who might not see this as so.

Of course I have no idea even what country the person asking the question is from, so one can only speculate. However it s entirely possible that in some countries some schools are known to manipulate results - that would be a strong insentive for employers to know which schools a candidate attended.
