An Underemployed Dad's Career Search (America)
"We must become the change we wish to see in the world."
Taking this timeless and invaluable advice from Gandhi as one of the messages and life choices I have chosen to spread and share to the absolute best of my abilities while I am on this Earth, I have decided to begin to expand my job search and share my experiences and story across this wonderful technology we call the World Wide Web.
My name is Kyle and I am about to be a father. Well, to be completely technical about it, I am already a father-in-training, so to speak, whose child is due to be born in October. I consider myself spectacularly fortunate and would like to note that this post is intended for anyone and everyone - not just for potential employers or those in similar circumstances.
I am currently the Office/Project Manager & Coordinator for a roofing & construction company located in Virginia Beach, Virginia (Prior to this, I was the Systems Coordinator & Assistant Project, Office, & Operations Manager for a scaffolding company located in Norfolk, Virginia).
Current circumstances are as such: this roofing & construction company is a side-business of the owner who has decided to scale it down in order to devote more time, energy, and resources to another business of his. While it has been a great experience and opportunity, here is what this means for me in a practical sense: The pay, benefits, hours, & growth potential are not sufficient or permanent enough for the needs of a father-to-be, much less a soon-to-be family of three.
And this is why I am reaching out to the community - online and in-person - to you and to others in any and every way that I can -- to apply myself, my abilities, my experience, my philosophy, my resources, my beliefs, and a dedication to doing and being the very best in every way regardless of life circumstances, no matter what. This is what I want to share with the world and this is the message and legacy I want to share and leave behind: With dedication, trust, positivity, a commitment to helping others and doing the most good we can while we're here, faith to rely on every ounce of time and the endless supply of energy and hard work within us, and a devotion to our ideals and the full realization of our human purpose and potential; there is no reason to ever be ineffective, to ever feel limited by fear, doubt, or confusion, or to accept, realize, and achieve anything less than the absolute best.
This is a life and a universe full of such limitless and magnificent possibilities, and I believe that every person should live their life accordingly and with the most positive impact we can have on others and this world.
I am looking for an opportunity to enrich, grow with, and improve your company and cause in any and every way I can -- an opportunity to show others and my loved ones and to help others to show their loved ones that life is every bit as great as you choose to make it -- an opportunity to show people that life is about applying yourself, never giving up, and following and realizing your dreams, purpose, and potential -- and that acting on this law of nature opens up a whole universe of possibility and potential you may never have realized existed. I have been lucky and blessed enough to see and feel this first-hand in my life and to have the opportunity to share an example and a message with which to help and open other peoples' minds (and eyes). I want to help illustrate and spread the fact that unplanned events and circumstances -- even the ones that seem scary or confusing or negative -- are enormous opportunities and blessings in disguise. Everyone deserves that.
My goal is simple: to make a positive difference in peoples' lives. We are all here with infinite purpose and potential; life circumstances should never get in the way of remembering and acting on that simple truth.
I don't want this to be about "me." I want this to be about hope and about inspiration and about realizing the very best of everything no matter what -- in your life and in others' lives.
Worrying never does any good, but the feelings of guilt, panic, depression, hopelessness, frustration, and worthlessness that any parent in any circumstance relating to underemployment, unemployment, or any form of unpreparedness are such completely natural reactions to the dedication, commitment, care, and love they feel and have for their child (or children), family, and loved ones.
And these difficult feelings and experiences should never get in the way of our effectiveness as parents or as people, our family health and well-being, or the joy of living, parenthood, and helping others.
I so tremendously value and look forward to hearing from anyone -- including you, reading this right now -- who would care to contribute to this cause in any way -- should that be in the form of your participation, a story, networking, a testimonial, questions, advice, a career-search collaboration, or a business connection. I consider it an honor to be able to interact with and assist whomever I can however I can and could not be more privileged to receive and share your contributions, whatever form they come in -- even if the contribution is as "simple" as your time, questions, or kind words. Even something as simple as passing this posting along or sharing it in any way with even just one other person would be an extraordinary gift. Thank you so much for reading. I can't wait to share this experience with the world.
