JOB DESCRIPTION:
Currently, as a Child Protective Specialist I work under the supervision of a Supervisor, Manager, and Deputy Director and perform a wide range of social service duties to ensure the safety and well being of children that are listed on a child abuse & neglect report that was called in through the State Central Registry. My main job duty as a Child Protective Specialist is to protect children by investigating reports of abuse or neglect that are assigned to me by primarily speaking to reporter/source, doing home visits, school visits, speaking to several collateral contacts such as: school staff, medical providers, and family members to ensure that a child`s basic needs (clothing, education, food, medical, shelter, supervision) are being adequately provided for. As a Child Protective Specialist, I`ve helped many families in need by scheduling family conferences and child safety conferences to devise a safety plan for the children. I`ve also assisted families in crisis through counseling, referrals to drug rehabilitation programs and other community based programs and preventive services agencies to prevent a child from being removed. Furthermore, I`ve worked many times with NYPD detectives to investigate Instant Response Team Protocol high risk cases, and also have worked with Family Court Legal Services attorneys when filing neglect petitions, testified at 1028 hearings, fact-finding hearings, composed several family court reports, and attended several legal conferences in Brooklyn Family Court.
